I'm still wondering what connection Jewel has to country music that she was chosen to host that show.

She's married to a pro bull-rider, probably close enough.

Totally true, but don't let Jewel hear you say that. (rimshot)

Jewel is related to Mossy Davidson. That makes Jewel 1% fantastic.

Jewel went pop and had a semi hit a few years back but yah, her audience is like 40+ year olds sippin wine at Humphries

    1. Jewel "went pop?" Why, was she a jazz singer before?

    2. Her audience is 40+ year olds, but then again she's been out there a long time - she herself should be about that age now

    my bad, I meant "Britney-pop" I dunno, I think there's a difference between 90's alt-pop (see 90's VH1) and today's Pop like Britney, Pink, Fergie, etc.

I somehow have an autographed copy of this record:

It's too embarassing to put out or even put on ebay though. Just hoping someone someday says "Hey you got any Jewel records lurking around here?"

She looks good though, crooked tooth and all.

This is the most awkward video ever when Kurt Loder her grammar on MTV

Damn, you talk about "not a good look!"

The whole Britney-pop thing hardly worked for Liz Phair. Who hypnotized Jewel into thinking she could do the same?

Nothing to do with nothing, but speaking of 90's alt-lite female singers, earlier today I was browsing through the recent book by Jen Trynin...interesting...she was sort of on the third-tier of all those whiny female alt-rockers from ten years ago like Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrisette, and that woman who sang "Bitch"...well, Trynin had the misfortune to be signed to Warners right when that phenomenon was picking up steam, so she was lumped into that bag against her will...anyway, her book (I forget the title) is her memoirs of that time, and it's a hilarious document of when "grunge" went mainstream and the whiny-femme-singer thing (which is still with us) was a sidebar to alla that...

Late 90's, i was a buyer for a chain of record stores, She was in town for a promo tour. The Warner key accounts manager and the head of marketing roll up and make a big song and dance about how i have been deemed worthy enough to be invited to a shake and fake and listen to Jewel play acoustic in a room full of sycophants.

I politly turned them down, that resulted in dudes getting very worked up and telling me that this was an "opportunity of a lifetime".

i couldnt contain myself and launched into a tirade, cant remember too much but i know i finished with the line "i would rather stay at home and fuck a cheese grater than have to listen to that bullshit. im not coming because she fucking sucks".

not a jewel fan, but there is one song that i heard by her's on the radio once that was almost angelic in sound, many layers of vocals...anyone know what i'm talking about? i never heard it again, so i dont think it was a single, cause i heard those to death.

They put this on books on tape.
    Best news all day.

i was going to bring this up.
i don't know how many of you know about jewel's versatility as an artist or better put as a bard.
her poetry is very deep and i'd almost go so far as to say "spiritual"
i've learned a lot about love and life through this lady.
    carry on jewel.
    thank you.
    for teaching
    me
