    Hey Scones,

On the horns, it was a toss-up between 45 King and Pete Rock. I gave it to Mark because he was first to be known for the horns. He influenced my horn sampling, so I big-upped him.

Man Jake, you're cheatin', picking by two-sies. You gotta select one, bruh!!! I agonized over my choices, so I understand the difficulty. Sure, I easily had multiples I could've picked for each category.

I know but some of these guys do drastically different shit so I wanted to aknowledge the different styles. The Loop/Melody part is hella dificult because part of me wants to go with battlecat, dj quik etc. because they brought the real musicianship on the beats whereas Dilla, Primo and guys in that genre have the coldest ear for finding loops.

Shit is almost impossible to really choose, but here's my shot:

Drum programming: Shadow (King of the MPC and drum timing.)
Loops: Cut Chemist & Nu-Mark (masters of beefing up a loop with other sounds, 808 etc.)
Effects & other oddities: Chief Xcel (that synth on "Deception", use of delays, etc. Dude has a dope studio)
    Basslines: Pete Rock (duh)
Sixth Sense: Dilla (pure artistic genius)
Engineering: ThesOne (bounce those tracks to tape!)
Energy: The (early) Bomb Squad. (Guys had a way of making everything sound so hard and powerful)
Danceability: Rick Rock and his disciples in the Bay.

    Yo Haze,

Beat was my toughest category. I passed on Tribe (believe me I loooooove their drums) because I picked 'em for another category. Plus, Extra P had those extra crispy joints too (along with Diamond, Buckwild, Showbiz, Hi-Tek, Muggs, Beatminerz, Beatnuts, Havoc, Marley Marl).

    Peace,
