This was a great comic by a dude named Neil Gaiman. You can get them all collected in trade paperback at any book/comic shop. It was put out by a DC subdivision called Vertigo which specializes in horror/comics for mature readers. Its a kind of horror/fantasy book. It ran for 70 something issues. Its not really based in the DC universe, but its loosly based on a character created by the late, great Jack Kirby. It's prolly one of DC's better known cross over books; people who don't like comics usually at least know this. The author has gone on to work for Rolling Stone & has written some novels that have done really well. The covers are really amazing. They were done by British artist Dave Mckeon. They have been collected in a nice book.

  • Neil Gaiman also did the Death series which was excellent. Worth checking that out as well. I only ever bought a few Sandman comics as a kid but enjoyed them. I was always more into the traditional superhero stuff though.
