This set's the reason they waited awhile to find a final resting place for James Brown -- because the mixes here are certainly enough to have him turning in his grave![/b] The set's a European extrapolation of grooves originally laid down by The Godfather back in the day -- remixes that take the best bits, beats, and basslines from older classics, and rework them strongly into more contemporary numbers for the dancefloor. Overall, the approach is very quirky and playful -- and the tracks are usually at a tempo that's faster than the more familiar originals by James -- at a pace that's similar to the Japanese Soul Source remix project from years back. Titles include "Cold Sweat (Captain Funk dry mix)", "Sex Machine (Readymade jazz defector)", "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose (dZihan & Kamien rmx)", "Call Me Super Bad (Cay Taylan rmx)", "Funky Drummer (Listen To The Muro mix)", "Sunny (Funkmaster JB vs Funkmaster JS hardboiled rmx)", "Soul Power (jungle funk mix)", "Call Me Super Bad (Cornelius rework)", and "Get On The Good Foot (Mr Drunk rmx)".

The Bill Laswell treatment that I have always felt the Godfather's music needed!

    Validated at last!

I hate remixes with "versus" so much. As if the dude who mixed them thought they clashed terribly and wanted the two songs to duke it out until a winner is chosen. There's a whole vocabulary of bad digital DJing out there (mash-ups, etc.)

Unless they're selling that JB figurine this whole project can go to hell.

Yea, what the hell is "VERSUS" when it's actually a collaboration.

I'm assuming it has a meaning from way back, but nonetheless
