Just got a call that a local store has a copy of an Aretha Franklin 78 on the J-V-B label. I assume it's gospel but I have never heard of an Aretha 78....can anyone out their fill me in??

  • I think it's something she probably did as a teenager, singing gospel in the church of her father, Rev. C.L. Franklin.

  • I wouldn't be surprised. Aren't there one or two Sylvester Stewart 78's?

she has 2 gospel 78s on JVB - 'precious lord' & 'never grow old'

both are live church recordings from when she was a teenager - they were reissued on a JVB/Von/Battle lp in the 60s & also on Chess/Checker in the 70s.

    her voice is really powerful.
