That sounds like a good deal - the copies I see all look like they've been skated on. Even the reissue seems to go for $20 and up...Great album, too. That and New Kind of Soul are my top Larry Willis LPs.

  • i thought you were selling to a friend?
ebay is not a price guide. nor is popsike.

ebay is not a price guide. nor is popsike.

really? then what is? gemm? goldmine? rockin' records? plaese.

but, i think know what you mean. you're talking what you see stuff going for in shops and shows as well? but, understand that my world is all dead dude collections, thrifts and flea markets. so 100% or more profit is selling everything for $2. & THAT'S DUMB.

so what is the price guide if not ebay and popsike? i'll give you that popsike can be inflated. but why is ebay not a price guide? i mean, that's what people are paying. it works the other way too. i sold an OG alice coltrane monastic trio for $12 because that's what one went for ebay. i still think it's a $20 record.

takes me about 5 minutes to put something on ebay via turbo lister. payment comes automatic. takes me another 5 minutes to pack it. and if it's going to ship around the corner or to Australia, it's the same effort on my part. and yeah, the aussies will pay $30 for a donny hathaway record--while people in RVA pass it for $10.

that's business. and your friends should understand that. but really, they should get off they asses and roll with the diggin' hustle master. hi, m***.

  • i understand selling international: ebay, websites, etc. and getting top dollar. especially from some hard to find shits, you should get some good dough. but like you said, you paid a dollar for most of them and your friend is copping a bunch of averagely nice pieces off you (that you will definitely see again very soon). you could make dough and not be the "i checked the internet, and this is $5 less than the lowest popsike price" guy. funk inc for $40 is some bullshit.

id laugh at you and not buy anything (except that les mccann )

didnt no one give you some cool prices when you were starting out?

    THE TOUCH OF TONY.

i hope you have that shit on your wall of gold.

why shouldn't i get fair market for everything? the debate here is "what is fair market?". but plaese god tony don't ride me on that record welfare steez.

seriously, trust me. i've given free shit like this to people who were at all collectro levels. ("collectro levels" god, that sounds gay). either to help lil' dudes get started or as a professional courtesy to other diggers.

i'm trying to strike a balance here. i'm pushing back to liven this debate and see how much of people's pricing is subjective. i think removing the subjective aspect can take the personal issues out of trade/sale conflicts between friends or even acquaintances.

at the same time, i just don't feel it's my obligation to help grown folks pay their bills, but still not tryin to be all like "$40 or eat a dick".

    depends on who's buying.

    I'd pay 30.

  • funk inc for $40 is some bullshit.

If both cover and vinyl are in top shape or damn close to then I could be your buyer. If you posted in on ebay with a buy it now.

  • FatbackFatback 6,746 Posts
that's a better approach. i'm gonna do that. just totally embrace the whole subjective thing.

In defense of Fatback. Dude has hooked me up with records many times. So if he has a bunch of records to sell and needs to make some money on them I have no real issue paying full price. I mean if you don't want it don't buy it.

  • depends on who's buying.

this is what it all comes down to.
fair price is whatever someone is willing to pay.

im not trying to ride you

    just tickling your conscience

Judge me not by the records I own, judge me by the records I may sell to you at slightly below market.

Perhaps... all my initial record-related dealings were with record store proprietors. Had I realized that doing so was generally accepted, I guess I would have pressed them to round off the price because "I'm just getting into the game".

I mean, you can make just as strong an argument for giving established dudes a break because--unlike in the case of a kid who may lose interest in records in six months--you can be certain it will come back to you.

Where does it stop? Who is it permissible not to give a discount to?

Wouldn't one want to curry favor with such a veritable deity of the record world?

Discounting anything immediately decreases the value, and thereby, impacting whether or not it's good.

What kind of baller pays $500 for an OG mint True Blue?
