Three-Dimensional Models of Virtual Cities[/b]A variety of virtual reality (VR) technologies are being used to create three-dimensional models of virtual cities on the Web that people can go into and walk around.[/b] These objects can be any scale, from models of molecules to buildings and cities. !!!pic & text taken from: http://www.casa.ucl.ac.uk/martin/virtual_cities.htmlhttp://www.planet9.com/earth/tokyo/index.htm------------------------------This is some shit! the 3d GPS systems they have in cars here in Japan don't look too far off from that picture you posted
Nevertheless, the Tokyo thing is next level, makes me realise how disconnected the people in my office thinking how they are with their flythrough.

it is somehow possible to keep up to the level of detail as shown in Kenny's post if the municipal department has a comprehensively integrated GIS datatbase with data on terrain levels, building levels, builtform shape/polygon, road alignments etc.
