SP1200 help (weird startup related)

So I just turned on my SP to run some drums through it...insttead of doing the usual boot-up stuff, it says something about a RAM test and asks me to choose RAM or Disk. I chose Disk, assuming it was asking me what it should be booting up off of. Instead, it's not booting up--it just keeps accessing the disk The display says, across the top:Pass HE DE SE P1Underneath HE, DE, SE, and P1 is 00Underneath pass is a ticker, I assume...it seems like it does a cycle of, well, something, on the disk, than after each cycle, the Pass count goes up 1. It's presently at pass 13, and the field is to four places (0012). I have never seen this before. Is this a normal thing? Will it stop by itself? Do I have to stop it? Is it seriously going to do 1000 passes? I'm kind of afraid to just shut it off while it's accessing the disk, but I'm kinda worried that something's wrong with it. Fuck, I really, really hope not.
