Funkdoobiest - as their name made clear, specialized in a stoner-friendly brand of Latin hip-hop that often recalled their mentors. The group was formed in Los Angeles in 1992 by Puerto Rican emcee Son Doobie, Sioux emcee Tomahawk Funk, and deejay Ralph M. (who'd previously worked with Kid Frost). The trio became part of the Soul Assassins crew, along with Cypress Hill and House of Pain, and landed a deal with Epic in 1993. Funkdoobiest performed at The Bomb Hip-Hop Tour in San Francisco in February 2003. DJ Muggs produced their debut album, Which Doobie U B?, which was released in May of 2003 and went gold on the strength of singles like "Bow Wow Wow," "The Funkiest," and "Freak Mode." Now established as cult favorites, Funkdoobiest returned in 1995 with Brothas Doobie, which produced a couple more underground hits in "Rock On" and "Dedicated." Following Brothas Doobie, Tomahawk Funk left the group to raise his family. Funkdoobiest reconvened as a duo, switched to RCA subsidiary Buzz Tone, and recorded their third album, 1998's The Troubleshooters. In 2003 Son Doobie released the solo album Funk Superhero and then in 2004 Doobie Deluxe, both on Battle Axe Records. 14 years after their debut in San Francisco, Funkdoobiest return to perform at a Bomb party!
MOTION MAN
Although Motion Man has appeared on dozens of other established rapper's songs, Pablito's Way marks Motion's second full-length solo album. Kutmasta Kurt's signature production sound showcases Motion's distinct, animated voice and offbeat flow on Pablito's Way. The album also features guest artists Too Short, Mistah Fab, Fat Hed & LC, Dizzy Dustin from Ugly Ducking, Gift of Gab from Blackalicious, DJ Q-Bert, and the legendary Kool Keith. To people in the know, Motion Man is a hip-hop veteran. For those who aren't familiar with Motion, they will be impressed by his notable resume. He's been rapping since the late 80's, in the early 90's Motion's freestyles filled the airwaves on "The Wake Up Show" with Sway and King Tech. Along the way he has collaborated with Busta Rhymes, E-40, Kool Keith and Biz Markie, among others. In fact, Motion's best known work has been as a guest emcee on projects like DJ Vadim's "The Terrorist" and Linkin Park's "In The End."
SABAC RED
In 1995 Sabac hooked up with Ill Bill and there begin the relationship of what is now the legacy of Non-Phixion. Non Phixion is Ill Bill, Sabac Red, Goretex and DJ Eclipse. After 2 years signed to Geffen Records yielded nothing, Non Phixion continued releasing music independently and began touring the world on their own. They've performed in all of NYC's major venues and have done shows all over the US and the world. Some of the groups they have shared the stage with include Gangstarr, Run DMC, Wu Tang Clan, Rage Against The Machine, Mos Def, Ludacris, Blackmoon, Pharaoh Monch, Big Pun and Fat Joe, Cypress Hill, Necro, The Beatnuts, Jurassic 5, Jedi Mind Tricks, Dead Prez, Hieroglyphics & the Roots. Non Phixion have earned themselves a dedicated fan base across the United States, Europe and Japan. Sabac is currently working on his next solo CD/DVD titled The Ritual, as well as writing and recording for the next Non Phixion album The Nuclear Truth, and The Secret Society (Non Phixion and Necro). When not touring Sabac does public speaking engagements, guest appearances, and conducts workshops for teens in his new hometown of Oakland California.
UNIFIED SCHOOL DISRICT
The explosive two-man army known as Unified School District hails from Oakland, CA. Comprised of dj/producer Ecto One and mc Super Ugly this powerhouse duo has been recording and making music together since 2000. Blending the old school with their treacherous, no holds barrred, gritty style has gained them a dedicated fan base who's ears bleed for that USD style throughout the Bay Area and across the country. A master conductor to the Technics 1200's and a monster of the MPC, DJ Ecto One uses these skills and strong musical background to bring forth undying love for the blues, jazz and rock through his production. Ecto One has produced tracks for hip-hop heavyweights such as Pep Love (Hieroglyphics), and Sabac Red (Non Phixion), however his pounding sound is complimented best with the raw talent of his partner emcee Super Ugly. Butchering the beats with his cut-throat vocals and raw raps, Super Uglys union with Ecto One is nothing short of explosive. The two have been compared to great duos such as Gangstarr and the infamous Pete Rock and CL Smooth.
The Gavin Report (1958-2002) was the nation's primary radio industry trade
publication, providing the offical radio airplay charts for each music
genre. It was used as a programming aid by radio stations and record
companies. The Gavin Seminars started in 1986 in San Francisco, the city
where the Gavin offices were located. Radio programmers and record company
promotion executives would gather for the convention during the day and hit
the clubs at night to see acts that record labels brought to the Bay Area.
In '93 and '94 The Bomb Hip-Hop Magazine hosted stellar nights during the
