I played Sexy Back - Redz Remix 5 minutes before midnight.. then I dropped Shake That Remix by Pitbull, perfectly in sync with the TV screens. 10 minutes later, a b-boy battle broke out, then I dropped Apache, Dance to the Drummers Beat and played a 45 minute selection of 90s hip-hop classics - Pete Rock, Beatnuts, Gangstarr, Pharcyde, Show & AG, Nas, Tribe, De La, all that good shit. Unplanned, usually unwanted, but it worked... people were so drunk, they didn't care and just danced. The front row was full of real heads who were in absolute disbelief I freaked it like that @ Ministry of Sound. A great night, although a bottle of Tequila doesn't help anything...

Played a 30 minute JB set earlier in the night: please,please,please/i got the feeling/sex machine/i feel good/ papa don't take no mess (extended version).
Crowd loved it; got lots of thanks, and chefs coming out of the kitchen to thank me.
i played a Vince Montana 12" i have called "Get Down New Years Eve" by Montana orchestra, then i played my edit of the break of Kool and the Gang "ladies knight".
Played "Give it up Turn it Loose" up until about 1 minute before (the year had to end with one of JB's most heavy recorded moments ... that break) then switched up to Black on White Affair's heavy funk version of "Auld Lang Syne" which I recommend highly (you can find it on the Wheedle's Groove comp). It came off well.
I'll say this...The BEST part of the night was the food.
I was at a new restaurant that a friend of a friend owns. They'd never had a DJ, but it went really well. Anyway, I did two hours of jazz/latin, and then had an hour off to eat. had the following:
bay scallops in orange butter sauce 6 kumamoto oysters charcuterie, w/ duck prosciutto and beef rillettes and some other stuff i forget (duck was awesome) chilled lobster salad with bibb lettuce and grapefruit antipasta platter truffled rissotto (FIVE FUCKING STARS)
Main: Duck 3 ways (Sausage/Leg Confit/breast (incredibly good)) served over white beans; like a lighter cassoulet. Extraordinary.
After that, back for two hours of soul, and killed it...cooks came to hang out and drink bubbles for the last hour. and, after that meal...they kiiiiiiilled it.
Get on the good foot. Besides it being proper I think that it's a positive and symbolic track when entering a new year in terms of ,well, starting off on the right foot.
too bad I didn't follow my own advice because I was hurling Thai food a few hours later (my ladyfriend said "it looked like you where coughing thai noodle hairballs) A .

Had itunes going at a small house party - so stoked to be not at a club. at exactly 11:56 i played "tell me when to go," then at exactly midnight it was "sex machine"
I ended up djing a really dope house party that my friend put together last second. I can't remember what exactly I was playing before midnight, but right after the countdown, kissing my girl, shaking hands and saying 'happy new years' for about a minute, I pressed start on Eddie Grant's 'Electric Avenue'. The place erupted, and everyone started to dance. By this point, I was alternating between my three glasses of wine, champagne, and rum and coke. My mic skills were on fire. Hence, the 'I bet some Electric Avenue would kill shit right now...' train of thought.
Oh, and of course I played the JB 45 tribute set. I think that was a prerequisite.

I wanted to play the crib with my girl, some trees, a nice bottle, and the scrabble board... she wanted to party with her visiting friends... well she won the argument and we got dragged by a bunch of out of towners to a wack club. Music was bad, and too loud. Crowd was cheesy. I drank too much and lost hearing. Fucking lamest new years in recent memory.
We (Cosmo, Eleven and I) played an hour of James Brown from 10:30 - 11:30 (Cosmo did another long uptempo JB set at about 2:30). 11:30 - 12:00 I did a set of hip-hop from 1979 to 2006, one song per year, with Cosmo on the mic calling them out. We'd been talking for a week about what to play at midnight and couldn't come up with anything, so after the countdown I just threw on Jackson 5 - I Want You Back.
