Can anyone give me any info on the MPS-label colors? Are the red ones always the originals? When did they use the black ones, etc...thanks in advance!

Older releases have pink labels. When MPS signed a distribution deal with BASF in ca. 1972 (?), the label was changed to red. Many early titles, including those first released on Saba, were reissued with red labels. Black labels were used from ca. 1977.

Some copies may have a first issue cover and a second issue vinyl. Covers that have a catalog # starting with CRM are second issues.

  • Thanks!

If it has a black label, it's a third pressing from the very late 1970's.
