Anybody seen this guys band play recently? Worthwhile? I just bought tickets for Lyrics Born (Friday) & Anti Nowhere League (Saturday) & Phantom is on Sunday & I'm wondering whether to get a ticket for that too??

Setzer's cool and all, but he's a little too Vegas hoopla
for me, and the Stray Cats were NOT all about him.
Phantom's shows are not amazing,it all depends on who is
singing, but his persona is a little more down to earth
than Setzer, a little more punk rock, his shows a little
more club than bandstand, and definitely a good time.
Holmes, one of the beauties of youtube is that you can
often preview what a band's live show is like before they
come to town, for example Slim Jim Phantom:
says you... i personally know quite a few upright players (including myself) that could play circles around "slim jim". paired with the fact that Setzer wrote most of the songs i think the Cats were certainly all about him. Almost had the pleasure of playing with the dude at a now defunct jam session years ago in Hollywood but it never happened. Dude has style even in the later years with his "vegas" style big band shit. Slim Jim has no style and that show you posted he seems kinda weak, he looks cool though... i'll give you that.

Don't know why the performance gets cut off, but the intro interview
is pretty cool. Most interesting of all is how this version of "Hound
Dog" may predate the Elvis version of it, as they talk about Elvis
but the title of the tune seems unknown to the host. However, Burlison
does seem to be playing the Scotty Moore licks from the EP version, or
at least trying to
I just think saying the band was ALL SETZER is kind of lame.
Why dismiss the rest of the trio? Like I said, I don't dislike
Setzer, but everyone scrambles to ride his jock, while the other
guys have been recording and playing with a number of talented
and respected musicians all along, and working just as hard.
I'm not even a huge Phantom fan, but I respect his work and his
contributions to keeping a certain rather narrow genre of music
alive for so long. I just didn't see the point in tossing him
under the bus just to elevate Setzer.
I chose the clip mainly because I liked the track they did -
the other clips were Stray Cats songs and Johnny Burnette covers...
that track had that moody minor-key rockabilly style I really like.
Hell, it ain't even all about the Stray Cats. If ya ask me, the Blasters were far superior!
(and I'm just talkin' about the 1980's neobillies, now - the 1950's originals are another story entirely)
