Yo, I've been thinking about spinning some Northern Soul and I have no money to hunt down the originals. Is there a good compilation of northern soul on vinyl anywhere? that shit is

What's wrong with cheap Northern Soul 45s?

    b/w this thread has potential

  • nothing wrong with the cheap ones. the fact that I havent had the money to buy any records recently is the problem. that and there are some I wanna be able to spin (Do I Love You for example) that definately aren't in the cheap 45 category.

I don't know if there is a cheap LP that compiles the 25 singles played at the Wigan Casino between 1am & 2am on the morning of October the 3rd 1972. Because, as everybody knows, these are the only true Northern Soul songs. Anything besides those 25 songs is false Northern & you will be looked down upon by the powers that be in the notoriously uptight Northern Soul scene.
Maybe go for some of those Kent samplers, although they are getting a bit pricey these days also.

  • Okeh has a good Northern comp, obviously of only Okeh sides....the Vinyl version is promo only as it was just a CD comp...but it was pretty easy to find copies a few years ago. Also of note, a lot of huge $$$ Northern 45s can be found for cheap if you pick up the LPs they are on instead.

  • lord help me if the northern soul heads dont favor me, start crashing my parties and ruining the fun for everyone. I'll check ebay for some of the Kent and Okeh comps, see what I can find.

Also, you wanna post the "official northern soul" songs so I can check my list? if the heads caught me spinning the wrong songs I may get , and that isn't fun

great, this is a serious statement!

  • Google search Goldmine/Soul Supply records..... Should lead you to a plethora of
    compilations..

    Also check these....

    And there's plenty more.

    Hope this helps.

  • Beware of dubious sound quality on most northern comps. 20 or 25 songs on a single LP is not a good look for DJ use.
