The SQLiens hijacked the other thread so I'm doing it AGAIN>--->>>>>>>It's your boy BEN FOLDS back up in this motherfucker like WHOA! You cannot, and I mean CANNOT front on this power-pop genius and his piano rocking skills!!!You know I had heard his name echoing distanly in the back of my mind with some kids talking about "Son did you cop that new Ben Folds joint" but I have to admit that I never heard, much less COPPED, and actual disc until I heard the unforgettable "Army" from the 1999 release "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner." From then on it was nothing but UP! I used to listen to that record on a spring day. When I was house sitting for this girl I knew (I used to "break that off" in our spare time, if you catch my drift) I would blaze the speakers up bout it and be like whoa. I even sampled "Jane Be Jane" for a hip-hop record. So recently I have revisited this album and it made me remember the last "greatest summer ever" that I had, which was the summer of 1999. You had "Musical Massacre" and "Murda Music" but I also rocked joints by my dude Mr. Berry as well as the occasional Cassandra Wilson record and, OF COURSE, the Original Sound Track from "The PJs" (essential listening!)But you know what? Your boy Ben is right up in that mis as well. You got to hand it to him for being able to go against such tough competitors. I recently Illegally downloaded (I SEE YOU, Mr. Most!) his entire catalog and was quite pleased. In fact, I caught up on some of the live recordings the day I had to speak on a panel with Jazzy J. That's just what I needed to set my mind "right here."So big up to BF5, and I'm looking forward to your next project.NEXT UP[/b]Next on the list of bands I LOVE will be~ The New Radicals (This is the soundtrack for a summer, my friends. It could have been of a generation.)~ Len (It doesn't get any better than this.)

Yeah, that's them, and man, that was one of the most depressing pop songs I've ever heard.

Is that book good? I would like to read it I think. Has anyone ever read Hawkings "A Brief History Of Time"? I read this years ago when it first came out. I was 14 and was super into all sorts of shit on general and special relativity. I think I should read it again, because I was only just a kid.

This kind of reminds me of the lyrics of the song "Your Most Valuable Possession" from the BEN FOLDS FIVE album "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner!!!!"

Good morning, mr. ben. it's about 6:30, winston-salem, north carolina. just laying here in the bed, half awake, half asleep, thinking about you. i was, uh, wondering if you were looking after yo
St valuable possession--your mind. i was thinking about john glenn, his space journey and all. they said that when you're in space you lose muscle mass...and the body mass...and i wondered if th
As any...end to it. or whether if you didn't exercise in space, how long it would be for you were just...a head, or a mind, and have no body or arms--you would have them but you couldn't use them... I was wondering if, uh, if your body mass would drop to a certain level, and then it would stop right there and keep whatever you needed to use your mind, because it would still be working. 30 seconds remaining...anyway, i was just pondering that. what do you think about that? i hope everything is going all right, i'm going to wake up here in a little while and forget what i was thinking

It's pretty good. I have always been really bad at science, but I like to strech my brain every once and a while and read something I know nothing about. I have to read some of the theory sections more than once to fully grasp them, but there is a lot of history as well. Over all it is well writen and interesting. If you are into this kind of stuff it is well worth checking out.

I, H***** S****** III, too ride for Ben Folds [Five].

Dude's music definitely opened me up to the idea that I wasn't just a hip-hop head. I owe it all to college radio for that. Michigan State's 88.9FM was the lick.

I think dude is one of the better songwriters of our time. He definitely doesn't get the credit he deserves. Plus his live show is vicious! I can never go to another one though, because his fanbase is anchored in that high school / college market. I feel old as hell at his shows.

Him and John McCrea of Cake... those are my dudes.
Cake has gotten stale and I didn't realize it was neo-hippy rock a la Guster, but the shit was still great for about 4-5 albums.

to elaborate on my previous post and maybe steer this aways from Ben Folds (sorry yo), the lectures im listening to are by Richard Wolfson, and they rock in a really non-math general law type of way. here are the first 12 zipped up.

"Smoke" is a track that I still play from time to time. Pretty sure it's from this CD. Good song about letting the past live in the past. Very healthy.

I hate to poop on the floor when Cosmo is getting so open to Billy Joel's kid brother but a point of clarification: Ben Folds Five is no longer. They broke up amicably in 2000*. Carry on.

true story, this dude I know, who is the worst kind of drunk(the surly kind, might even take aswing at his best friend when he gets blotto) was in this bar and Jeff was in there also(he had been staying in Memphis to record and hang out). Surly drunk dude thought Jeff had taken his backpack(he had the same one) and was arguing with him about it. Surly dude said "ahhh, fuck you, go jump in the fuckin' river!" A few days later Jeff drowned in the Mississippi river.

After celebrating thier entre catalog, I alwyas like to poing out the BFF broke up about 5 years ago and, in thier official statement regarding the breakup, said something like "No one gives a s--t about Piano Rock". Had they stuck at it another year or two, they would have been sitting pretty.
