How to get past a skip

I just got a really nice copy of the other Jorge Ben Osmar Milito collaboration (not the one I currently have posted) and it has a single skip right in the beginning of the first track but is otherwise really clean. I've tried the nitty gritty, I've tried groove-glide, I've tried putting the full weight of the tone arm and the least weight on the tone arm, I've tried the anti-skate, but I can't seem to get it past this one single skip???!!! Any ideas?

    JUST DO IT

I thought about that. A little reconstructive surgery.

    Try this...
Place the needle on the record about 10 seconds or so AFTER the skip.
Now slowly backspiin the record until you come to a point BEFORE the skip.
Now play the record from a point before the skip.
Many times, depending on the type of skip, you can fix it by doing this.
You might have to repeat it a couple of times.
If it's not working, you might want to try gently but firmly placing your finger on top of the needle/cartridge and apply slight pressue downwards.
This technique works about 50% of the time for me...

co-sign on the backspin method. since reading it on here I've fixed like
10 skips doing this. It leaves a pop where the skip was, but no jump.

Just be careful not to drag the needle across the record while doing it

Only do this with a dj needle or else you will get burn that sounds worse then the skip.

Are you basically backcueing the needle over the point where the skip is? Or stopping short of that point, and then pulling up the needle back up before the skip?

backspin thru the skip, so as to clear it out.... In my experience if this doesn't work (after 3 tries) , it ain't comin out..

    Yes.
And money's right about the needle.
i wouldn't advise using anything other than a pro DJ needle.

Good call, Paul. I fixed an Incredible String Band skip this way this morning.

Thanks due to old timer DJ Eddie On, who taught me all sorts of tricks like plugging in your headphones to use as a mic, or plugging in a mic to use as headphones, taping 45's to 12 inches, etc.

tricks like plugging in your headphones to use as a mic,
I'm always surprised how many people aren't up on that one...
I've seen many a DJ/Collectro, plus all the average joes, bug out on the headphone turned mic trick!
