Happy Jazz show now up - June 2006

World Cup month and though we ourselves are looking forward to watching as many games as possible but we hope we can keep you in check with some marvellous musical gems too. Like all coaches and managers this month, we were unsure of what playing strategy to deploy. 4-4-2, 4-5-1,4-3-3.....do we hold and contain or dictate play with an all out attack or play on the counter attack?? So many options to choose... Anyway, the Happy Jazz coaches chose an international squad with a policy of blending experience with fresh raw talent. So they drafted in Wayne Shorter, Sadao Watanabe, Eero Koivistoinen, Milton Nascimento and Johnny Lytle to bolster out the defence and midfield. The Orf Big Band was also brought in as a holding player. So we had a mix of steady defence and creativity already. We brought in Marc Mac and the Visioneers and recalled Les Gammas for that injection of pace and fresh idea's. On the bench, Joe Lee Wilson and Hareton Salvanani were limbering up but there was no place on the bench for the inconsolable Fumio Itabashi and Ugo Marotta, so his "Summertime" was not a good one.. As coahces, you can only bring together and try to teach them how you want them to play. As soon as they cross that white line, there is nothing more you can do... Our job is done.
