I know this was a joke, but I do wonder sometimes how records get so trashed. Like the records in my radio station library, promo copies that were sent to the station in 1970 and have sat there for 35 years ... they'll be trashed! I'm like, "who was doing WHAT to these records?" How much damage can you do carrying it to the studio, playing it once or twice, and bringing it back? What the hell were people doing to their records??

I once had a copy of Hook and Sling that I think was used to spackle the side of a house. (this is back in my early digging days, when I bought anything cool no matter how fucked up it was.. side B played great, though, by the way)
you either find a collection that is babied, or you find the collection that has been racked across the front driveway, never no medium. but i still buyem
i passed on that shleu shleu lp at the austin show. funny that you picked it up, rich. i'm a big fan of their late 60's and early to mid 70's work. great haitian compas group w/ some killer guitar work on some of their recordings.
that one looked too late for my tastes though. the cover is pretty wicked though.
I hate when you go through some old fellas shop & find something cool amongst the crappy shop odour that seems to be a generic smell in odl dusty record stores. And you presuem only exits in that space.
Then you take it home & it smells of high rankin' cat piss. The cover, the record, everything...
I bought about 80 2nd hand records in this dope little street full of 2nd hand music stores (cassette & vinyl) Jakarta. Most of the covers were ratshitted, but I didn't realise that pretty much every record was tragically fucked up... Impossible to play out...
Seems like the humid weather wasn't vinyl's best friend.
