I wish I had the money to buy these cds, or all the original records. Anybody feel my pain? I listened to the whole first disc of the love cd in tower records the other day...incredible, maybe more disco-house than disco but anyone who likes disco, house, or just soulful music in general would like it. I heard that he rarely plays disco, mostly house.

He plays some disco, but keeps it fairly mainstream and rarely drops the dope deep disco shit he's got in his possession. The BPM's stay fairly consistent the whole night, too.. We're very good friends and I know he's geting paid $3000+ to play at these places, but can't you call the shots now?

    Love his re-edit stuff.

Indeed. Drops alot of what house dudes call French House or Filtered House. Mixing skills were almost flawless last time he was out here. On a great sound system its real easy to get into it.

i have mixed feelings about dude... on the one hand he's got mad skills, incredible records.. impecable taste.. on the other he plays boogie lounges with watered down smooth house...

i don't wanna hate on dude but its a tad two faced... if your gonna play raers and the DEEP shit why keep it just on the mixtapes? and then play dull lounge house at the gigs?

quite frankly, because that's what he's paid to do. Give the people what they want kinda thing. I'm sure we would all do the same if we're in the same situation.

he does do all disco sets once in a blue moon. I think of the countless times he's been to Toronto (10+?), he has only done one all disco party.

I have the muro/dimitri mix, it's pretty good. His best one is still his Disco Forever mix on bbe, re-edits are on point.

nah man... you can be part of the solution or part of the problem... the dumbing down of club / dance music is a sad state of affairs...

ron hardy is spinning in his grave

He's told me as much. He'll drop me a track here and there, but it's out of guilt only. I had him play my afterhours after a System Soundbar gig (with Little Louie) in my freinds soon-to-be torn dorn 3000 square foot pad and he was still housin' it. Can't hate though, that was a good time.

There are worst problems in the music industry than dimtri playing fronch disco house at parties. I actually don't mind it in moderate doses, that playboy mansion cd is mixed nicely and has a few good cuts. He is just a dope dj, imo.

I don't really see any dj out there right now that is making a living playing full disco sets for every gig, it's just not possible.

  • Ah, I am not feelin Super Disco Friends at all (some good ones though), but his mix on MDD is Ebonycuts is my favourite radioshow, and has been that for over a year..

MDD is a great site you all should check out. The forum is hot too.. Al asked me for a mix..so when I have one ready, Im sure he will put it on his site..

btw, does anyone have the Dj Muro part of DIM'S SUPA DISCO BRAKES MIX??

    peace

im not on his case for not playing a night of disco..frankly a night of ONE thing in ANY stlye is boring...

im irked that he's part of the SIMPLIFICATION of dance music.. a drfiting away from ECCELECTISICM

that's why i mentioned Ron Hardy... cat's like him and Levan, Knuckles, Jim Burgess, Nicki Siano, Mancuso, Tee Scott etc etc laid the foundations for the entire concept of dance music and they did it by being unpredictable, ecclectic, risk takers.

and yes there are plenty of ecclectic DJ's in that mold all over the world... but none of them eem to be able to get much in the way of gigs in North America...

I feel what everyone's saying. I've been a giant fan of his since sacre bleu came out, and I actually really like french house. But, I too would like to hear raer disco all night.

OK, check this out... He's djing this Saturday night at Pacha in NYC, for an album release party for the house of love cd. I've never been there, but I'm pretty sure it's one of those westside giant house music helltraps. Now, djing there, I bet he gets a lot of pressure to play house, so if he doesn't play a lot of disco, I understand.

It's just not the right place for it. That place is probably full of meatheads. He should guest at Shelter or something. I actually would go to Pacha, even though it's like $25 to get in, but I have a gig elsewhere.
