what if any of this dudes stuff is necessary listening?i pass on it all the time, should i keep doing this?

    his mid sixties LPs are top shelf hard bop, one LP(the name of which escapes me and my LPs are strewn all the damn place rat now) has the great tony williams on drums. in the late sixites he made a play for the hippy/rock crowd and recorded his biggest selling work..."sombrero sam" is pretty decent mod/jazz/rock stuff...some of it is good but I like the earlier stuff.

    Love-In on Impulse is a good one.
    There was also an album he did that featured some of the Beach Boys. Can't remember the name of the album, but one song called "freedom" on that record is pretty great. Anyone?
