I don't really know much about this genre but I think I like what I've heard. The Pied Pipers?Fire and Ice?early Small Faces?I dunno, school a li'l dude.

Listen to hcrink. The Eyes are amazing, as well as some of the Les Fleur de Lys records. Also recommended:

    The Attack
    The Syn
    The Outsiders
    Q65
    The Birds
    The Who's first 3 45s

Most of the best freakbeat is 45 only, so find reissues that include the following tracks:

    The Syndicats - Crawdaddy Simone
    Shakespears - Burning My Fingers
    Dave, Dee, .... Mick & Tich - He's A Raver
Richard Kent Style - Go Go Children
    & so much more

This is primarily UK (some Dutch stuff), there's also the French stuff (Dutronc, Antoine, Sullivan, etc.), and a host of other killer stuff from Europe and Down Under (don't front on the Aussie stuff).

    Some more titles later.

    The Wimple Winch/Four Just Men
    The Creation

Plus, if you listen to 'Freakbeat' and you don't have any early Beatles or Stones, Kinks or the Who, you fit into the category of complete loser

just thought I'd share, don't wanna see you make that mistake(I have seen it too often)

Nice list (good mention on the jacqueline taibe, Delay).

Ronnie Bird's version is "Chante", I believe.

I knew I was forgetting a bunch - but how the hell could I forget the Pretty Things?
'Rosalyn' is utter brilliance, as is 'Midnight to Six Man'. Their psych stuff is pretty interesting, too.

  • There's a "Vintage Years" 80's comp of all the early Pretty Things stuff. Alot easier than all those 45s.

    Yes.

Don't forget The Idle Race and Easybeats.

...and I still have The Buzz - You're Holding Me Down (RE on Columbia) up for trades.

I just got a version by Les Sultans the other day - I posted an
MP3 in the finds thread, here it is:

Les Sultans - Tu es Impossible (I Can Only Give You Everything)

Don't know if I'd call this version "freakbeat" though, it's a bit
downtempo (as is the Them OG, compared to the Little Boy Blues raver)
    but still pretty cool.

I wish I owned more OG freakbeat stuff, but of what I have, these
2 are probably my favorites. I will trade 350 good records for a clean
copy of the OG Dutch Belfast Gypsies LP:

    Belfast Gypsies - Secret Police

Belfast Gypsies - People, Let's Freak Out
