One of the best coming of age books.

Great cover to this LP. Unfortunately horrible music by former head of the Black Panthers Elaine Brown. You'd expect some Soul, but not it's Folk, sung badly.

On a side note, I know a lot of you guys hate on Ricky Vincent and his book Funk, but he's a friend of my uncle who tells me Vincent is writing his master's thesis on the Panthers official band the Proletariat. Were mostly people from Sacramento who played Funk and soul. Seen a picture of them, but never heard what they sounded like. Did they put out a 7"? Can't remember, but they were mentioned in a book I read about music and the civil rights movement a couple years ago.

I use to teach that book when I had 11th graders.
