Who are your favorite baritone soul singers?P33, whose opinion I always respect, was talking about how great Brook Benton is. Between '59 and '64 he crowded the charts with hit after hit. One of his biggest was Rainy Night In Georgia from '70.For me, Brook never made it. I like his stuff with Dinah Washington but the rest is, eh.I decided it is his baritone voice I don't care for. I think my favorite soul singers are tenors. Most also have a high falsetto. P33 compared Brook to Cooke, Jackie Wilson and Little Willie John. all of whom I love and all are tenors. Wilson and John often use a falsetto.Lou Rawls is one baritone who I dig. Like Brook he is more of a pop singer. Aretha and Mavis Staples voice's have both mellowed to a baritone, and they can do no wrong in my book.Who are your favorite baritone soul singers?Dan
