broken harddrive, stranded songs related

so my harddrive recently broke and i lost everything on my computer. all my music is gone, but i still have a few pre-crash things on my ipod. however, my ipod is still connected to a harddrive that now no longer exists, and i tunes won't let me transfer anything onto the new harddrive. i know there's a way to get around this, but i'm still in the dark. any help would be seriously appreciated.
