At least I was supposed to be working.
I would tack onto the weekend thread, but
that shit just got out of hand. Let's start fresh.

Amen Corner is actually a weekend find -
pretty good 1967 UK mod LP, soul covers
in a Small Faces vein, with a couple psychish trax, too

Salloom & Steve Colt records were sealed store stock @ Chea*o's -
I didn't know Salloom & Sinclair had another LP on
Cadet Concept besides the "Mother Bear" one!
Backing band is the Area Code 615 crew.

Finally minted up my Fat Mattress, and despite the wack cover,
5 Americans is pretty good garage pop/R&B.

Kim Fowley helmed this whacky project of a "mystery band"
doing covers of Beatles songs and Stax classics in a "heavy " style. Unfortunately, the vocalist (and often uninspired playing)
kind of kill the whole thing. Still, the cover of
the Bar Kay's "Grab This Thing" is sick,
and the Kim Fowley written original that ends the LP is on point.
The awesome Rick Griffin cover makes it worth buying alone.

My score of the day, by far:

Pretty damn sweet!!!
Record is mint in the shrinkwrap, except for one thing -
which dropped the price down a ton -
and is one of the weirdest vinyl sights
that I have seen in a minute:

Look at how much of the outside edge is neatly cut away!
What's awesome is that it is dead wax only,
you can cue both sides with out a pop or missing a thing -
and despite the flashbulb effect showing all
the dust, this thing is otherwise mint! Jeah!!

nerd takes pictures of his records...

Not that one, just "Do You Have The Time" ("to listen to me whine")

    Which I really love.

I will be on the lookout!

  • that steve colt LP never worked for me. always sounded like it was about to get good and never did. yuo find anything on it?

ive seen some wax with those weird side lips. makes it easy to catch the record at the right part if you measure it up right

Actually, I'm listening to it right now, and I really like it,
more than I expected. The playing on it is excellent,
loud bass & drums and nice guitar, and his voice is pretty legit.
I like these "folk/soul" records when they are done right and
the singer has chops. Apparently he was in a Boston soul/garage band called
"Steve Colt & the Colt 45's" before making this LP.

Can do without the "Whole World In His Hands" track though...

Great cover version. Looks like the only LP done by the Underground Allstars as is there.

    - Miles Davis "Live Evil". 2 LP set. Quadrophonic (like I had a quadrophonic setup)

    - Kalypso Keith and a few others calypso records ( I know calypso records like I know to speak mandarin)

    - "Cuando o carnaval chegar". A brazilian soundtrack by Nara Leao, Chico Buarque and Maria Bethania.

Nah, they've been open for a minute, I just don't think many people have hit it up yet. I know Yuichi has been through there, but that's about it.

I already have "Drives" and "Oh Girl" but didn't have "Move Your Hand".

There's still some "basic" records I'm missing so I just wait until I catch them out there. I haven't been digging at all in a while though so this was cool for me. I only hit them up while I was out there. Dudes are reasonable with the prices too.

is that Dennis Brown track the same as "Can't Keep a Good Man Down"?

  • A lot of marginal/medium raers trickling in but this is a recent standout.Private hippie/acoustic/psych jazz with a cover of Ornette's "Lonely Woman".

these were all real world finds* at my local spot in BK. It was funny too, cause I was researching the Kitty Winter record I posted up the other day, and came across the Whole Darn Fam review here on SS, then found it yesterday. Dude charged me $15 for it. still in the plastic too.

*I'm kinda in agreement with Paycheck that I like to go out and get my hands dirty. I keep my ebaying to a minimum.
