Albert Ayler - NEW GRASS

most people who like this record are people who aren't albert ayler fans, but moreso funk/soul fans. i've heard this album get trashed by more than a few fans of ayler's music. personally, it's definately not a favorite of mines when it comes to his music, but i like a couple songs. i'm wondering if there are any ayler fans who actually praise this record, because i've yet to meet one.

    I think new grass is decent but doesn't hold a candle to his esp sides. Save your money for spiritual unity or bells, or spirits rejoice.

    If you must have it, you can find the french (re)press for less than $10.

    It took me 5 minutes to figure out what was going on in that cover.

    what's weird, is that the album that preceded "new grass" was "love cry". makes you wonder what happened between those two recordings to change his sound so drastically. or was it really just bob thiele's idea to reach new audiences?
