Surge in Spam (Gmail related)

Any gmail users noticed a spike in the amount of spam they are getting?The spam filters have usually been very good. Haven't had much spam leaking through ever. However, lately, I've been getting about 4-5 spams a day. Is this a gmail thing? Or just more spamming going around owing to the Holidays?

    I've only received 3-4 spam mails since I got gmail (4 months ago)

    Just today I noticed I got my first spam message ever to my Gmail account. I've probably had my account for 9 months or so, I think. Beats the hell out of Hotmail where I get anywhere from 5-30 spams a day.

    not exclusive to gmail...im on aol and ive just recently started getting 2-5 spam emails a day.
