Idiocracy Starring Michael Vick

This is so bizarre on so many levels....

The Mayor Pro-Tem of Dallas decided to give Michael Vick, a convicted felon still on parole AND the quarterback for one of the most hated teams in Dallas, the Key to the City!!

The Mayor himself was supposedly never informed and the Mayor Pro-Tem claims that "most of the residents of Dallas support this".

Idiocracy is approaching at light speed.

Dallas Mayor Disavows ???Key??? Presentation To Michael Vick
February 8, 2011 12:50 PM
DALLAS (AP) ??? The Mayor of Dallas says he did not sanction giving Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick a ???key to the city.???
Vick won The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award this past season, his second in the NFL since serving 18 months in prison for operating a dogfighting operation.
Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway presented the key at a ceremony in Dallas last week.
In a statement issued Monday, Mayor Tom Leppert distanced himself from the gift.
???The action taken was not sanctioned by my office and was not an official ceremonial honor on behalf of the city of Dallas,??? he said.
He said ???official keys to the city??? are presented by the mayor or an elected official designated by the mayor and are reserved for ???an elected official of international status.???
???Clearly, this was not the case in this situation and one without my knowledge or approval,??? he said.
In his own statement, Caraway said the key was ???ceremonial.???
???These ceremonial gifts are different from the official keys to the city presented by the mayor,??? he said.
As for honoring a convicted felon, Caraway said, ???I care deeply about animals??? and ???am deeply sorry to offend anyone who loves animals.???
He acknowledged Vick???s past but noted that ???since making some bad choices, Michael Vick has devoted time to speaking to children about staying in school staying away from drugs, making positive choices about picking friends and the importance of education. That was the focus of the event.???
Leppert said he has asked the city manager to ???propose guidelines to prevent this situation in the future. Caraway said he would ???welcome a clarification of the guidelines.???

    Like fuck he did.

Vick's a miserable prick, but much worse people get elected to office in Texas.

Our President noted (paraphrased) that the NFL should be commended for allowing a man who served his time - as Vick did, like it or not - another chance in life. He was using it as a specific example to a specific audience at the time. Harvey simply cut out the President's entire intent in his rush to discredit an authority figure. I am certain that this anomalous and embarrassing oversight was merely that.

Probably whoever's in charge in the mayor's absence, like the Senate President Pro Tem.

  • If Mayor Nutter gave Romo a key to the city he would be impeached and probably beaten by an angry mob.

However you slice it, Obama is a certified cheeseball for trying to attach his name to the Vick-for-MVP bandwagon. Muthafucker actually took the time to commend the NFL...pah-leeze.

Has Obama done anything -- anything at all -- worthy of a tip of the hat from Harvey?

Back to the topic at hand, though, I heard about this on the radio and it definitely was a WTF moment. Key to the city... of Dallas. Also heard more people than I'd like talk about whether or not Favre should call Aaron Rodgers to congratulate him. I guess these NFL dudes are going to be scrambling for things to talk about since there's nothing else of a pressing nature, aside from a possible labor lockout (!).

Ha, I was almost going to say "except marrying his wife." But it's still good enough for me.

As I've mentioned before, I actually voted for the guy, which was me doing a favor to all of his supporters. If so many sincerely believed that Obama could really bring on some change, then I wanted to help give that possibility a chance. But so far, Obama is nothing but yet another company man. Just because he comes across as someone we'd all like to hang out with doesn't mean he isn't consistently full of shit.

Did Obama jizz in your coffee or something? You're pulling a Bachmann here.

This kind of eliminationist rhetoric only fuels the hate.

By the way, if folks'll note: I am not in any way supplying Mr. Vick with an air-five. What dude did was sick and reprehensible. Yet, as the resident noted, he served his time after due process before a court of his peers. I do believe that the nod to Vick, specifically, was tacky.
