  Are you saying that Flying Lotus is somehow a modern equivalent of Sun Ra...?
  
  If so, you're wrong on so many levels.

  Kind of a "Punch line" to make people react. Just like saying That Lebron or K. Bryant are the new MJ... Of course there will never ever be another M.J.
  And even Michael Jordan was said to be the new Dr Julius Erving at the beginning of his career.
  
  But I would say that listening to some Flying Lotus tracks I came to connect them with some Sun Ra works. I also felt there were more connections (inspiration) between those two than between Madlib & Sun ra for exemple.
