So on my way to finding out what the heck an "Ear" was, I stumbled upon this site. How the hell, people differentiate between what press is from what year is beyond me...b,121a href="http://www.organissimo.org/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t11722-50.html" target="_blank"1web page

font class="post"1b,121b, 21only ones without the "T" are differentiatable.

  • Did you find out? If not the ear is the pretzel like scribble signature on the run out of NY pressings.

There used to be a really good site that explained all the pressings in super thorough detail with label scans and allathat. Can't seem to find it anymore but this one has most of the info sans pictures...b,121b,121http://kleene.ss.uci.edu/~rmay/Bluenote.html/a1

  • Blue Note is one of those labels where finding the LP doesn't mean you've found the OG. It's so much more fun to look for LP's on labels that didn't have 5 different pressings for a single LP, where if you found it, you found it.

I actually like the fact that you can get a vintage pressing of most of the good titles for fairly cheap because there's hoards of different pressings.

Collecting Blue Note records is a phase most people go through. But, in the end. Who really cares?

I pretty much agree. I used to think I needed a ton with one track I liked each but nowadays I've kept maybe half a dozen total.

I like Jazz...I've got many BN LP's. I couldn't care less if it's the OG press, BUT any euro repress from the eighties sounds like shyte. Also, if your lucky enough to have a clean deepgroove Mono from the sixties from some cat like Grant Green, your in for a fantastic listening experience...wicked sound quality.

font class="post"1b,121b, 21That statement might fly with hipsters and breakbeat kids, but if you said that in front of straight-up jazz fans, you'd get a serious argument.b,121b, 21Just sayin'.

But I think you missed the point. Straight-jazz fans are not mindlessly collecting[/b] Blue-Note records because that's the only label they identify with. They are actually listening[/b] to those records. And probably have a larger repertoire than just one label.

font class="post"1b,121b, 21People get into verbal feuds because of it, I like knowing that the information exists so that if I ever did come across an early Blue Note or significant BN album, I can just pick it up and hope for the best.b,121b, 21Like anything, people study the numbers and letters and know what it means. People get crazy over wanting to find the Robert Ludwig pressing of Led Zeppelin II[/b], the album that always seem to be sold with its share of mold and mildew.

  • There's plenty of wicked BN LPs. I never understand these threads, the words 'toy', 'kids' and 'fad' come to mind...
