Harvey Scales Live?

So Harvey Scales is playing live in Brooklyn this Saturday,b,121and I'll be in town, but already have 3 or 4 things to chooseb,121from that night ... I would really like to see Mr. S but I alsob,121seem to remember someone on here saying that when they saw himb,121live he didn't do his own songs, insread running through theb,121casino soul lineup of "Midnight Hour" "Mustang Sally" "Get Ready"b,121etc ... can anyone confirm what his live show is like these days?

    I've seen him twice in the last two years, and if he was doing casino soul at one time, he sure ain't now...evidently somebody pulled his coat as to who his new audience is, because he's now doing the correct soul stuff (i.e., HIS OWN stuff) like "Get Down," "The Yolk," "Broadway Freeze," etc.. And doing them WELL. So check him out if you get the chance.

    I'm struggling to think of what the other things could be that compete with this, cover medleys or not. And you'll be guaranteed decent music from the DJs anyway. Only drawback would probably be a lack of honeys under 40.

    Saw him in Memphis at the Ponderosa Stomp and loved all of it but one song, which was one from his disco days. Other than that, he's solid. Go see him if you have the opportunity.

    Ive seen him quite a few times and it is great...he even played our shop's Christmas Party a couple years ago...he did the Yolk, Broadway Freeze, Loveitis...hes gonna play what ya wanna hear...the only disco he did was "Disco lady" which of course is the biggest hit he wrote, so you know he is gonna do that...but he is a great entertainer and puts on a hell of show

    I saw him live this summer in Chicago and had a blast. Great mix of people at the show, and like someone mentioned he's a hell of an entertainer. Highly recommended. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/oj.gif" alt="" 21

    I thought he was great live in Chicago. Got to talk to him for a bit after the show. All around good-natured dude and really funny to boot.

    he also does a great Otis Redding...he's done an Otis cover the last few times Ive seen him, and even though they are a bit irreverent (not "shittin on the dock of the bay" irreverent however) his voice gets real damn close to Otis...not implying he is a singer of the caliber of Otis, just that he does a nice imitation...

    OK, so this show was FANTASTIC. b,121b, 21I've seen a few of the old-school guys perform in theb, 21past few years, and Harvey was definitely the one thatb, 21most made you feel like it could easily have been 1968 -b, 21his voice was great, his energy and stage presence wereb, 21top level ... he did so many songs you want to hear, evenb, 21including the amazing "Sun Won't Come Out!" The band behindb, 21him was superb, including my boy Eli "Paperboy" playing someb, 21killer guitar. For my part, I was THE drunk dancing whiteboy for b, 21once, mainly because I knew I had a 3:15AM Amtrak back to Boston,b, 21so I was just pounding cranberry vodkas, wanting to be sure Ib, 21would pass out for the whole train ride ... but even if I had beenb, 21sober I would have been shaking my ass like a fool, you could notb,121stand still when Harvey was rocking the stage! What a great time!
