I personally like her voice, but I'll agree that this record isn't real solid. It works fairly well as an "alternative" country album, but several of the covers are ill chosen.

One of the better tracks is included...

    sister site

Well, there definitely are more sisters over there.

Your post reads very W*******y circa 11/06: "what sucks and why"

What's funny is I just read through that whole thread about 10 minutes before posting. Some of the hate must have washed off on me, as I'm actually much more ambivalent about the Dalton album than my post let on.

What can I say? Sometimes it just feels good to hatt.

    Really? Ouch.

I too have found that Karen Dalton, in an Indiana antique mall, one doller per, two copies.

its iffy, a tad slick even, I don't have & haven't heard the capitol lp but I bet that's the real shit.

her voice is pretty unique tho.

sorry. it was actually gangland rhythms. but still.

  • thinking maybe I'd finally get it.
You didn't. If you want someone less "metalic and tuneless" try Celine Dion. Just as slick as you wanna be.
Do you guys hat on Velvet Underground too? You already had a 233 page hatfest on Dylan. I loves me some Karen Dalton, But what do I know, I like Wesley Willis's voice too.

  • i thought i found this a few years back - it had the wrong record! this is her hardest to find they say, and ive found everything of hers but that one. (i put the cover on the wall, its a nice decoration)

You should know this one. Crazed Beefheart-like psych with breaks (on a major label):

    sick sick sick record!!

  • oh and I would take 1 Karen Dalton over 100 Wendy and Bonnies. That album sucks (besides the track "by the sea) no matter how many of you have it on your wantlist.

...or perhaps Margret Morgan, Lorraine LeFevre, Jan Hendin, those two girls from Nomenclature (next level!), Linda Perhacs, Eve Long, Bonnie Dobson, Marry-Anne Patterson, etc, etc, etc.

And, yo, Nico and Wesley Willis are both undeniable. No need to tarnish either of their sterling reputations with comparisons to Karen.

In all seriousness, I can see why people like the Dalton albums. Her voice is certainly unique, but it is just completely unappealing to me in the context of the production. Perhaps I should recant my earlier statement and re-conclude that In My Own Time would be more interesting if the musical production was better suited to her 'unique' (i.e. metallic and tuneless) voice.

12s include Joe Thomas "Polarizer", New Birth "Deeper", Lamont Dozier "Going Back To My Roots", Gaz "Sing Sing", Eumir Deodato "Whistle Bump", and more, unplayed promos.

What's the deal with that Lee Morgan? I have never seen that format before!

Just a jukebox 45 - at first I thought it was an EP, but
it only has 2 tracks like any single...the jukebox strips
and little record cover stickers are pretty cool, though.

It's also cool to think that there were once bars/lunchcounters
that had Lee Morgan in their jukeboxes!

  • my highlight we all together s/t

I knew about the 45s, but I guess I never knew they did pic sleeves for any of 'em!

Jimmy Smith 45s were big sellers back when jukeboxes were common!

  • Damn! I found a VG------ (poor) copy of that a few weeks ago. I shelled out a dollar just for the cover. How are the tunes? I wouldn't even trust my portable needle on the copy I found.
