SmallAxeRick said: There's also a Prince solo version from around the Controversy/1999 period that is my favorite version of this song.

I've used the Shure SE215's for years and like them a lot. http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-K-Sound-Monitor-Black/dp/B004PNZFZ8

I don't know if it's the Hendrix record for everyone, but it's the one I go back to the most after spending 30+ years listening to Hendrix. I prefer the earthier, funkier playing on BOG to the psychedelic style of the studio records. Not that they a…

I gave this a quick stab but I already see so many obvious oversights that I want to redo it (no Prince records?). I made sure not to use any compilations, that feels like cheating... John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Miles Davis - Nefertiti …

Not Blue Note, but I spent a while looking thru this Verve book recently and it's beautiful: http://www.amazon.com/Verve-Sound-America-Richard-Havers/dp/0500517142

My kids are just getting into the DVD's of the "Fresh Prince" and they are crazy for it. I didn't have the heart to let them see the story on the news tonight. RIP.

Massive Attack - Better Things. Some real emotion in those lyrics, I felt them fully when I got dumped. You say the magic's gone Well i'm not a magician You say the spark's gone Well get an electrician And save your line about nee…

I just picked up a pair of Bose 301's at a local pawn for $150. Not the super steal of the year but I thought it was a pretty decent price. I have always heard from audiophile types that Bose = crap but these sound nice to me. Of course I'm sure tha…

The Minutemen "Double Nickels On The Dime" has locked grooves of a motor revving at the end of all four sides.

I always felt that way about sports/gym too, but then I had kids and no longer had the time to get away to play ball for a couple of hours. What I do have is a long lunch hour and a gym in the building where I work. Once I made going there a part of…

Going to the gym regularly is pretty essential to me. I spent most of my 20-30's neglecting my health, but I started going to the gym about 5 years ago and lost 40 pounds and have kept it off ever since. I go 3-5 times a week and do cardio and a wei…

Part 1 was excellent, looking forward to the rest!

I can't dig Tony's singing but I have been enjoying this one lately, Allan Holdsworth plays some insane stuff on here. Fusion at it's least cheesy.

Ew, Badlands. The only people I ever knew who liked them were balding Guitar Center employees. I just discovered this record and have been playing it a lot recently...

P-Funk Van Halen The Clash AC/DC The Cramps The Police The Jam Prince didn't really start touring until 1981, and EW&F was a little slick by then for my taste. I much prefer them "Gratitude" era, just listened to that re…

I have a long commute and Spotify, Mixcloud, and Soundcloud on my iPhone have been godsends. I listen to a lot of Spotify in my office at work too, I have a private office so I can listen without headphones which is nice. When I get home I rarely ha…

I've mentioned this before on here, but everyone with kids should check out the Dino 5 record that Prince Paul did with Chali 2na, Ladybug Mecca and some other people. My kids loved it, and it's actually tolerable for adults to hear when it gets pla…

This probably could have gone in the "radical music" thread, I can't imagine what seeing this on TV in 1980 must have been like. What a baseline...

First Issue and Metal Box are absolute classics, Flowers of Romance slightly less but still good. Those records defintely helped stretch my ears as a younger guy. Album is where I first heard them but it's just not as good (and god the drum sound is…

cai said:The Shaggs Came just to post the same thing. The thing that is so radical about The Shaggs is that to the band there was absolutely nothing radical about what they were doing. Listen to the "structure" of these songs and to most peopl…

I just set up one of my 1200's for listening only and used an Audio Technica AT120E cart, sounds great and not too expensive at all. Not sure how durable it would be for repeated needle drops and such, but for listening it's really nice.

Oh yeah her character was ridiculous, of course the girl they have nursing Brody just happens to be model pretty. Judging by her wardrobe I guess they have an H&M in that squatted hi-rise as well. Pretty swank. I am very close to giving up on th…

Don't mess around with Black Widows, the bite is more serious than you think. When I lived in New Mexico they were in lots of people's garages and closets, one of my neighbors teenage daughters ended up in the hospital from a bite after putting a sh…

I'm a native NY'er who did the reverse migration thing a couple of years ago. NYC now doesn't resemble the city I grew up in and I couldn't justify spending so much money to live someplace I don't like or even recognize anymore. I know so many other…
