Cosine on the Nikon for low light / high ISO shooting. I shoot with both high-end Canon and Nikon, and the Nikon wins in that dept.

What's your price range? The Nikon D300 or D90 is pretty good for semi-pro work on a budget. Pair that up with an 18-200mm and a 50mm f1.8 or f1.4. I can do quite a bit with that.

I would seriously discourage working on a percentage basis for someone who gets paid entirely in cash in another city with no way of tracking the income. That will end up in her paying you whatever she feels like paying you.
