Back from ten days in South Florida (and one night in Chapel Hill). Was wearing shorts two days ago! What happened? Came back with two boxes full of records. Most expensive was $8. I love Florida thrift stores where they still sell records for 50 ce…

It's all about Boo & The Tru-Tones "Let me get stoned". Played that one out last week and followed it with "Pass the Tu-Sheng-Peng" by Frankie Paul.

There's a great anti-drug track on the Madhouse "Serve Em" LP but I can't remember the title.

Stuck in Miami (could be worse) so I'll miss it. I'll be spinning at Jazzid tonight thanks to Lumin. Stop by if you're in South Beach.

2008 World Press Photography Winners I love how they caption that photo... Jury members said the strength of the photo by Anthony Suau for Time magazine was in its opposites - it looks like a classic war photograph, but is simply the evic…

N**l How's that Les Filles - Le pop? It looks like something I'd dig. Any chance of a soundclip? Thanks. I'm not set up for clips here but its a brand new release so there should be some out there. Its a surprisingly good collection of recent F…

Does anyone own that Maximillian LP without heavy ringwear? I don't think I've ever seen a pristine copy. Love that Gene Clark LP. Luckily the vinyl is super clean and yes the Gene Clark is awesome.

from the last week - The 12" is TJ Swann - "Get Fly." The Conjunto Yaguarimu is a great Cuban LP with one or two tracks that could (should) easily appear on any "Si Para Usted" comp.

I just found the "B-More Nation" comp last weekend but its sealed so I don't know what it sounds like (trying to sell related) . Its from 1990. http://www.discogs.com/sell/item/9417945

How is that Tasavallan Presidentti record? "Lambert Land" has been a personal favourite for a long time. Only listened to it once but I really liked it. Will report back.

Mostly show finds ( the "Voce Claudia Voce" LP was an e-bay buy). (Un)fortunately I was too busy selling to do more shopping. The Brooklyn Bridge I bought because my wife and I met one of the guys in the band. He moved from New Yor…

THAT LOOKS LIKE THE NICEST ART GALLERY-LIKE VENUE FOR A RECORD SHOW, DAMN NICE!!!! they did take down all the art before we started. nothing like fiending record dudes mixed with alcohol (in the afternoon) to make a gallery owner nervous. amazingly …

Who is the Svenonius clone on the turntables? That was the Svenonius. The other DC Ian (MacKaye) showed up too but did not DJ (nor drink any of the bloody marys on hand).

Back in college some guy wore a "Hitler European Tour 1939-1945" shirt to one of our house parties. The back of the shirt had stuff like Poland - "1939, Norway - 1940, Russia - Cancelled, etc." A Dutch friend of mine, whose dad had been a POW during…

I had an Eagles "Hotel California" tour shirt that I got at my very first concert in 1977. The photo on the front was a gas nozzle coming out of car gas tank with a few drops of gas dripping from the nozzle. I liked the shirt til one day my aunt sai…

This was a shrimp moqueca I had with my wife at a restaurant on the beach in Morro de Sao Paulo (Bahia). It was beyond yummy. Moqueca de Camarao (shrimp stew, Bahian style) Serves 4 Plan ahead, the shrimp needs to marinate for 30 minutes. Juic…

Yeah, what the hell were those 25 random rockadelic threads all about? Bizarrely, I think they might have been prompted by my thread about a record called "Eight Seasons of Chromalox". I thought my homo-erotic-euro-hitchiking story did it.

Last week's keepers - The 7" is the first Sun Ra (Saturn Philadelphia) single I've ever found.

It's out already and it's called Microwave.

It was me that went last year although he's had bunch of folks in the basement over the years. As long as you LOVE music and can listen to his stories you're welcome to hang out as long as you want -

He should just play songs off Nebraska and keep it acoustic. Wonder if he's going to do any shout outs to WalMart?

Don't ride for them as hard as I did in high school but I still appreciate them. They were one the first bands that sent me down the road to funk and salvation. I still think the live version of "Spanish Moon" is the bees knees and being from Atlant…

Their live show has definitely improved over the years, and Eric Hilton is the first to admit that he's not a musician but a producer. A few weeks ago Eric was in my shop at the same time as Ian MacKaye and I reintroduced them to each other. For ov…

"badges? we don't need no stinking badges." - Blazing Saddles "you take the blonde and I'll take the one in the turban!" - Young Frankenstein "the feeling is mutual" (said with the Teri Garr accent) - Young Frankenstein "i'll be back" - Terminat…
