ROBIN TROWER > GERRY RAFFERTY My best friend in high school had a poster that he got from his older brother which read - "DUE TO SEVERE ILLNESS ROBIN TROWER WILL NOT BE APPEARING TONIGHT." Maybe he's still got it...

is that propositions record a comp of their singles? did they ever put out a full length lp? Yes its a comp of their singles with one extended version thrown in. As far as I know they did not release an LP while they were active.

Weekend keepers. Top left is a nice "random" DC hip-hop/go-go track by Niki. Keep your eyes peeled for the "Nation is Born" LP as it's a killer that could easily end up in a dollar bin. Its a Bahamian independence anniversary comp. with "Funky Nassa…

I've got a bunch of 7"s on my walls and ceiling and some are pretty rare. Believe me though all the raers were VG--- or worse before they got stuck or nailed. I do have three Vogue picture discs in good shape that I use as decoration much to some co…

When I let friends play my records I watch how they handle the first one. You can pretty much tell in about 5 seconds if they know their way around a turntable and around wax. If they look shaky I will watch them closely otherwise I can relax.
-
Letting a friend/house guest play my records? No problem. Lending my records to a friend/houseguest? Not until you pry my cold dead fingerz off the wax.

First, I will go on record saying that I liked Waterworld and I hate Kevin Costner. I pretty much love all post-apocalyptic epics. are you kidding me? the concept is cool, and i liked it when i was 8 and didnt really look too into what happens, but …

Music hell is working in any corporate restaurant around Christmas time. One I worked at started playing the "xmas CD" on Thanksgiving weekend and didn't take it off for a month. Has basically ruined any Christmas songs for me forever.

Forgive me if I've told this one already but here's my one and only Cheap Trick story: Back in 1982 or 83 I went home to Atlanta for a weekend away from college. A friend of mine from Ohio named John (actually now the lead singer in Widespread Pani…

I've met Dikembe twice. The first time was at an African party here in DC back in 1988 or 89. There were a bunch on Nigerian guys there who were all about 5'6" or 5'7" and then Mutombo shows up and the Nigerians are all cracking jokes like "how's t…

The number one thing that should be taken into account is location. I like working at a record store, sure beats an office job... but it would be unbearable if we weren't in a neighborhood where there is a constant flow of foot traffic and interes…

Some of the people I've had to deal with in the shop the last few days (good, bad and ugly): 1) TWEAKED transexual going through the soul section at alarming speed and sniffling the whole time. told me she had been in here last year when she was a …

For me its gotta be "Love" but that's more for sentimental reasons than anything. I graduated from college in March, 1985 and promptly moved from Athens, GA to London, UK where I stayed for a about a year on and off. Musically 1985 was not a good y…

It was so weird looking at the back cover of that RAMP LP. I've seen the front so many times in pictures but I had never actually seen the back of it. Now on to Skull Snaps and Stark Reality and I can complete my 1995 wall of fame!

I'm old enough to remember when they were actually somewhat "alternative" although that didn't last long. I saw them in Atlanta at the old 688 Club and they tore it up. Really great show. A few years later I saw Gordon Gano's Mercy Seat open for Jer…

Nice score on that clean ass Boogaloo Jones "Sweetback"...every copy I have encountered looked like test subjects for some bizarre ringwear study Yeah the guy whose collection that came from had the cleanest records I've ever seen. Some of the crea…

Oh he is DONE. My guess is that he resigns by the end of the week. Until then he'll be negotiating with prosecutors to avoid an indictment. I doubt he goes to jail. What a stupid, stupid thing to do. Unbelievable. You called it. From today's Time…
