Thanks for the book reco Del Alma, I'm going to look for that now. The caliber of musicianship you see thrown about there like it's nothing is truly inspiring. The wedding band was insane: all young dudes and dudettes playing their version of ampe…

The food is still Mehhhhhhhh.... at least its cheap. Didn't notice the sulfur in Havana, but there were alot of funky smells, diesel fumes being the most prevalent. Ladies are still beautiful, and they just know how to move....

Bump Just got back, what an amazing place. Found a few records in good shape, but I'll admit I wasn't actively digging. Too much else to see there. So close to the states, but a million miles away... A photographers dream and structural engin…

LaserWolf said:I remember when you came in with it. First copy I had seen. I think the condition was too rough for me. I did get some sealed copies later. Every copy I have had has a pressing flaw. A good portion of one side wooshes. No …

Here's another one: This band first got noticed by me a few years back when my bud Wyatt got his hands on a huge jazz collection that he ended up selling on e-bay (and then proceeded to live off the proceeds for 2 yrs). Out of all those recor…

Nice posts Toby can't wait to listen... Having never been on a religious kick in any way, I've always approached music with religious overtones with a healthy does of skepticism. Needless to say the moment I glanced over the track list on thi…

Cool, this is exciting, it's been too long by far. One thing about sound quality: I think people get intimidated by the heavies that insist on Lossless quality files ready to be dropped at the clurb all neat and tidy like. Just put what you've got …

Herm said: Nice Herm, I have the exact same scar, though mine was due to too much yagermeister and the iron leg of a bar table. It happened 12 yrs ago, and now you can hardly see it unless the light is right. Skating home at 4:30 in the mornin…

Oh man, this guy is such a titan. Such a great player, always experimenting with obscure instruments to great effect and synthesizing beautifull soundscapes from diverse sources. And what a composer, he had a phenomenal ear for melody. One of the fe…

Goodness at the end of 2013: My wife got 2 tickets to a show by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band here in Ottawa last week , they brought the house down. It was - 35 degrees celsius outside but they had the crowd on there feet and sweating inside. …

It was a good yr here. Kids are getting older and easier to handle, though we did get a dog in Aug, but she's the shit. Life is full up but that's good, The strut is always a great sideshow attraction that sometimes delivers big for me music wise. D…

I agree with what D Eldridge said about most of us needing a carrot. The most important part for me was definitely fixing my back, but the carrot was being able to to do some great backcountry skiing which is next to impossible if you're flab. Fo…

You sound British Skel! But seriously, I tore the crap/herniated the fuck out of my back about 3 yrs lifting long rafters up onto a roof. Since then my back has been weak and would be thrown by simply getting out of a car, etc... That is, …
