Fairly common in the Midwest (the band was from KC), I think dudes are put off by the high honky factor of the cover picture. The versions of "Lickin Stick" and "Cold Sweat" are very tough and authentic, however.

btw, I'm not sure if the information is accurate or not, but my copy of King Roosevelt and the Soul Syndicate (Krass) has 'From Brooklyn' written beneath the group's name in pen. Yeah, Krass was from Brooklyn. King Roosevelt has two releases on the…

The only soul 45 I've seen from Alaska is the Sunday Nite Affair, on the Anchorage-based Alaska label. The band was from South Carolina though. Lots of bands went to Alaska to staff the many nightclubs and restaurants that did good business during …

There are a few soul records from the Dakotas, mixed groups naturally. I have never seen a Vermont or New Hampshire soul 45. Utah also has a paucity of soul releases.

How many fingers will it take to count Missouri? Many. There are quite a few soul records from Kansas City and St. Louis. Columbia, Jefferson City and Warrensburg? Not so many.

Btw, is there any Stone Coal White going to be released at some point? Yes, it is slated to follow the Pieces of Peace LP (out in a few weeks perhaps) and the Orivious compilation on Cali-Tex. It will be a four song EP, because, unfortunately, the …

define the 'Psych/Stoned Funk' genre My next Chains & Black Exhaust mix will surely set folks (even hardcore 45 dudes) back a few years! People will swear I am making these band names and records up. As far as the UK-US connection and who get…

2 of the tracks 'Prophet' and 'Joe Brown' were 'discovered' by Dante after UK record head 'Adam Leaver' SOLD them to him Good music should be shared, there is no "branding" tracks that you like or play alot. If this was the case, then "Get Down" b…

I challenge Reynaldo to post the tracklist of the superior gospel funk comp With caveats - no Savoy, Stax, or other mid-level labels. 18 tracks, notes, and proper licensing. The world waits... And he can't refer to either Breck's or my collect…

I'll give it up that Planet Earth does have some great sequences in it (a Russian leopard? Damn.). But by and large most of the unique natural occurrences that they are "filming for the first time in HD" have already been captured by NGS, UNESCO and…

Dude I fucks with that Planet Earth shit. Sunday nights are LOCKED DOWN. Sayin. Great white launching out of the ocean and chomping on whole seal? I heard this was i need to check it out this weekend. It is next level. I highly recommend…

I can't believe people are listening to a Timbaland record and thinking about the vocals. It is and always will be about the beats.

do any of you think it would be possible in your areas to have a successful funk weekly compared to all these monthlies? No way. Tried it in Chicago and it was not working...the magic disappeared. Monthly is just long enough to create the joneses.

Midwest. Dante, as crowded as your Wednesday night sessions can be, I KNOW you ain't sayin' the Midwest is a bad place to deejay funk... I'm saying that the funk parties in the Midwest will never falter. Two nights ago was the proof in the …

"Your Pregnit" Oh shit, Tom! I forgot about that comedy.

I listened to this fairly recently. I think I sold it at WFMU. A couple minorly decent tracks on there, but otherwise forgettable.
