Cuban jam session series is fresh. Never understood the craze for Manteca. It's got to be the worst recorded session ever. Maybe that's why - you can't even hear the piano. Just bass & drums. It makes Cuban Roots sound high-fi.

For a second I thought this was dude from the white stripes.

I personally dig the Alton Ellis version more.

I just met Carlos at a party last weekend and he mentioned working with setting up a Mulatu concert... this must be it. Rad.

I've cashed money orders with just the stub before, but that was a while ago (7-8 years?).

This one is a trip. You should hear the what's going on and kool is back covers. Really breaking into "real people" territory!

I am completely tired and about to crash, but here are a few favorites, some tragic, others genuinely good... Aforementioned cover of Hot Pants Road Really solid cover of Do Your Thing (Isaac would be proud) Gwen McRae cover... probably th…

I like the direction this thread is going in.

Thank you, Ariel. I didn't consider grad school before now, and realize that some deadlines have passed (fusk!). Sigh. Canada may be different, but yup, most deadlines have passed. From an all staff/faculty meeting today, I found that grad applic…

How much prep you should do totally depends on you, your goals, and the program you're applying to. I would recommend picking up a princeton review book and reading it, then take several practice tests over about a month. Spend 6-8 hours per week …

I still rage on them occasionally. The electric ones (ninja, michalek, proby) have the best staying value for me personally. They're just qualitatively different than US musicians and interesting for that reason. YMMV

Yeah this series is fantastic and usually cheap. They were all the rage here about 5 years ago... maybe more (Nate?). I still listen to the copies I have in the canadian jazz section.
-
If anybody has a clean copy let me know. I've been looking for a while. There have been a load up on ebay recently from the Netherlands, but they were listed VG+ and I feared hulk like condition anger.

I really dig this record. As well as the griot style more generally.

You do realize the banana isn't the hugest deal with that record, right? Neither are stereo copies. Yellow label promo mono would be the brag.

i thought mac's were relatively problem free. Comparatively speaking, they are, but as with anything, your mileage may vary... Macs have a slightly lower failure rate than other laptops. But like all portable computers, have a relatively high fail…

I have an iPhone that I find handy for work. You can't work too quickly with it, so I'm not too bothered by the stress of too much to reply to. It does tend to get whipped out at inappropriate times however. AHEM

just a shitty record nobody's ever seen before This seems to be the norm for "new discoveries" these days. Is the well really that dry?

My bad, I just saw this. ^^ VIDEOS OF THE ACTUAL SHOOTING. This is really fucked up. Dude did no wrong whatsoever. Murder in the fullest. I feel physically ill from the second video with the straight-on vantage point.

You could try doing a hard reboot. Apple-ctrl-power, I think. Sometimes the PMU gets confused and goes into eternal sleep.

The most depressing part about these kind of buys is they become charity cases.

Sounds like a confused old lady. Hey, you'll live to dig another day.

I saw this yesterday and gotta give it a thumbs down. Pitt was actually not bad with the terribly script. Narration was irritating. Couching of the entire storyline with Katrina was useless. It was full of useless, can't-miss-it symbolism that the d…
