Gooch, Thanls. Gonna try to find a used denon in time. Zen2, Yeah, it kinda hasta be a dual deck. Space is an issue, and a single deck just isn't fast enough for the dance recitals. Shit, If I ran microwave I'd just run them jernts from the TTs.

*Sigh* Yeah. I was looking at some online stores and the Numark does seem to be the only thing in my price range. Unfortunately, the one that died at the theatre was only 3 months old, so I doubt we will get 2 years out of it. Quick-- Wich is th…

Gotta get this ordered by Wendsday. Nobody?

"Mudbug" is an unfortunate moniker for what is one of the most succulent shellfish you can ever hope to eat. Some try comparisons of shrimp or lobster to explain the elusive texture and taste of the crawfish, but I find it futile. A crawfish is it…

And I've never had okra or tomatoes in gumbo in my life--I wasn't raised like that. Yeah, that's some creole steez that I'm not too keen on either. You learn soon enough down here that there is a huge difference between creole and cajun gumbo. Bo…

Yeah, I was asking the original posteur. Whom, I suspect, is deciding whether to admit to using flour and oil from a jar... Oh, and I've always found shrimp to be the one local seafood item that dosen't belong in gumbo. Takes away from the chewine…

Exhibit A: THIS IS WHY THEY HATE US. So, did you make your own or cop out?
-
Good God. How is that possibly edible? Flour and oil jello? I mean, it takes a while, but it's just 2 things stirred together over heat. Wonders never cease...
-
How else? Don't tell me this comes in a jar now...
-
Oh, and if you want to get tech and, ya know, awthentik, you need to seperate the fowl/sausage from the seafood. Chicken/sausage gumbo= Mitsubishi. Crawfish/shrimp= VDub. Throw some oysters on that bitch.

Sounds/looks good. Grew up with it. The darker the roux, the better, but if you are doing the creole variety with okra, the roux should be lighter. Deep tan. Down here it starts and ends with the file.

ANY Monty Alexander from RASS (which I do play on the regular). Also, lots of folks love the vibe of Ramsey Lewis' 'Another Voyage', 'Sun Goddess' and 'Solar Wind', for mellow-but-funky jazz. I also almost always bring Cannonball Adderley's 'Phoen…

also all the dudes too cool/scared to dance come slinking on over to see what made the ladies go haywire. Funy, I was about to post how this record is a sureshot to get the ladies playing the wall to get that ass shaking. I would say this record do…

So what, the dude was some wizard with the dee-jay'n as well? I had no idea. Down south, everything on Tandem was a no-brainer. I've played parties with nothing but Tandem, Macola and Sunnyview label joints. You can do that here. Respect. Who ha…

YESSSS!!! As a dj comin' up in the early '90s, this dudes mixes and edits were mandatory. God, they sound pretty cheezy now, but back in the day? That American-Soviets record still gets a good response down here.
-
Um, no. And down here, that shit aint even funny. But yeah, grew up resolutely middle class, and the julep was the after-work-unwind drink of choice for my folks and their friends. I have always wanted to drink straight bourbon, but found it too …
-
While I appreciate your advice, I grew up with the older folks drinking 'juleps on the porch, and it has always been a favorite. Now, I don't much care for burbon straight, so it would be lost on me anyway. Plus, for a mint julep, its all about the…

Well, tasteless American consumer that I am, we just shot Absolut. Chilled it hard, went down fine. I even got ssome rye bread after reading the responses, and while I certianly felt cool and slavic, I didn't quite get it. It made my girl giggle a…

Yeah, I was drunkenly worried about that, but it all turned out fine. Thanks for the advice and clonning.

The vodka is making the girl talk shit. There are banging noises behind me. Advice? Switched to whiskey after draining bottle 5 shots ago. Advice?
-
Alright, thanks. Watching the Hornets battle Utah and pouring the shot now. I'm going to sniff my sleeve.

Emeril's show might be annoying, but he is the real deal in the NOLA chef scene. I've never once heard anybody mention Emeril when talking about the best chefs in the city. [/the_real_deal] FOR REAL. I mean, I get that the dude is the face of NOLA…

Agree with most on here. New judge sucks balls. Carla is great TV. I actually dig Stefan. As someone who has lived in Europe a few years, I have always dug the general pompous euro-tude, I find it hilarious and kinda cool. However: EMERIL CAN FU…

It's already started down here with the muziks. Even the top 40 rap/r+b station has started to play "big chief" every couple of hours.

Thanks for all the good info so far. Harvey, I feel you on the adult/family deal. The girl and I have some friends with shindigs to hit, and as my parents weren't partiers by any stretch, I wasn't sure how appropriate they would be to attend mit k…

Ha. Apples and Oranges, my hominy. Anyway, yeah, I'm fully familiar with the debachery inherent in MardiGras. Was more looking for advice from those that have done it with a kid. I'm thinking it will actually be worth it to post up on st. char…

Perfect! All my young years at mardi gras were spent at local parades in BR and the surrounding Acadiana Parishes, so I am looking for just these kinds of guidelines. It's best to have a home base somewhere near a parade route. Oh yeah, king cake…

Duuuuude. That brew is super-tasty. I got all kinds of faded on the Abita AndyGator on teh tap at teh bar last weekend. That stuff is STRONG and DELICIOUS.
-
grab an Abita (beer) in the middle of the day and walk around with it (as long as it's in a plastic cup). OH, AND VERTI MARTE JUST STARTED OPERATING 24 HOURS AGAIN A WEEK OR TWO AGO! GREAT NEWS! Oh, and make sure you grab a "restoration ale" by…

There was a NOLA thread a few weeks ago that has lots of good info. ANYWAY: Go see Rebirth Brass Band at Tipitinas. Walk around the quarter and soak it all in. Take a streetcar up St. Charles and gawk at the mansions. Take a swamp tour in LaPlace.…
