US soul/R&B covers are basically the genesis of reggae itself, so naturally it remains part of the art form. Snowball rolling, ya know?

Current 60's sounding funk bands do not have said roots.

K opn the banks of LAke Huron.

And bop and ska had nothing to do with it? What about Cuba?

Either way, I have no beef with posting lists of tracks all I'm trying to say is that you can list your top 100 reggae covers and you probably won't come close to finding the best reggae in there.

That Scientist cover looks suspiciously like a CD scan.

Jazz/bop was def an influence, most notably on influential musicians Lennie HIbbert and Jackie Mittoo (ans Cedric Brooks) who would often play Jazz only nights in the resort clubs (as did Tommy McC, Ranglin, wtc)....but, ska (JA's first notable differentiated music form)is a direct result of JA musicians attemting to emulate US soul/R&B. LAtin/Cuba also had a big hand (thouigh smaller than US IMO) in JA in addition to other Caribbean cultures as anyone who collects calypso would attest (many influential genesis era muscians were of Cuban descent - Roland Alphonso and Lord Tanomo come immediately to mind).

I'd post some more for ya, but all I have is sand, sunburn, and steak porn currently at handb.

K.
