i'd love to help you, h!

but what exactly are the criteria for "fast rap"?

  • the first thing i thought if was "shake them titties" by the get funky crew. But its not really 'fast' at all come to think of it....but i will post it if anyone wants to hear it. yeah whats "fast" mean? like that JJ Fad song where they go off hummabubbashummabubba style? or fast tempo? or like twista?

the one from busta, where he says "stop" in between, "break your neck" or so? that is one of the most precise fast flows out there...

theres one by percee pee i can't remember the name...

eric b & rakim - let the rhythm hit em

    on a uk note:

    gunshot - ww3

    hardnoize - untitled

...unfortunately, i cant up any of these....

  • awright, you didnt ask for it, now youre gonna get it!!!

The Get Funky Crew - "Shake Them T*tties" 1988 12"

Not many MCs can compete with percee and kane when it comes to fast precise rapping.

Most obvious one that sprang to mind was Warm It Up Kane.

    Yes plez - noice!

US - BDK - 'Wrath of Kane'

UK - Demon Boyz - 'Vibes'

  • These tracks are good fast rap.

    Kaos & Mystro - Outcast
Kaos & Mystro - Timeless Insight of Kaos (RMX)
Maestro Fresh Wes - Jazz Tip
    Hostyle - It's Our Turn
Phill Most Chill - On Tempo

and so on. There are millions of great fast and hard tracks from the US.

If you wanna hear fast rap with a lot of funky samples in between than you have to check also for UK rap.

Check out the snippets from a UK webiste.

Hardnoise - Serve Tea, Then Murder

    MC Duke
    http://www.heroesofukhiphop.com/M3U/MCDuke-ImRiffin2.m3u

    Gunshot - Battle Creek Brawl
    http://www.heroesofukhiphop.com/M3U/Gunshot-BattleCreekBrawl.m3u

    Not fast but dope
    Gunshot - Killing Sesaons
    http://www.heroesofukhiphop.com/M3U/Gunshot-KillingSeasonRemix.m3u

And the "KING" of extremly fast and hard UK rap is Silver Bullet.
    That shit is really hardcore.

In Germany they invented the word "Britcore" for this whole scene. I know that the English guys and a lot of German collectors hate this word. Even the person who invented it hates this word today but I have to say it is a quite brilliant definition.

Silver Bullet - Undercover Anarchist (LP Version)

  • The Americans aren't going to like Silver Bullet, nor Hardnoise, Deliverance, Hijack, Killa Instinct, Gunshot, Brotherhood, Standing Ovation, SL Troopers, Icepick, Blade, First Frontal Assault, II Tone Committee, Huntkillbury Finn, DJ Mink, Bushkilla, Powerlords, Demon Boys, Metaphorce, Cobalt 60, Overlord X, etc... even Euro acts like, No Remorze, Readykill, Bolt Warhead...

That stuff was popular in Sydney... I still love it.

The UK local black experience... Late 80s... Ha!

'Battlecreek Brawl' is the shit... Haaaarrrrrddddccccooooorrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hardnoise/Son of Noise were awesome...

Whooa, hang on a minute there, you cannot possibly claim Silver Bullet as King...He was only a step above Derek B really...
The true Kings of the UK/Britcore scene without a doubt were Hijack
(Hold no Hostage, etc) who really started that style and went on to influnce pretty much all of those that followed as well as Q-bert...

    Hi, Hawkeye,

some of that stuff is dope! Thanks for posting! I'm liking "Gunshot". Is that readily available on wax?

    Peace

  • ^^ A lot of the 'Britcore' stuff goes for crazy $$$. Mostly wanted by the Germans/Swiss/Dutch/Aussies.

I sold a spare copy of Battlecreek for $250 ten years ago to a German tourist. &

The Jaz was very fast and precise back in the 90's!! Don't foret him.

Damn ! When I moved house a few years ago I got rid of about 30 12"s on the Kold Sweat label...Might have lost some loot there, Oh well...

    One of my favourites...
Cage 1 'Straight From Cage' (*edit: removed audio link)

    Others:

Powerful Juvenile and DJ Adam 12" 'This Stuff Is Dope/Lyrical Homicide'
    Foundation 7 'Compredator'
Keek & Qagee 'Don't Say It, Sing It'

Don't forget the Dope Posse either...
I have a ton of the UK stuff. Hijack ruled though - 'Hijack - The Terrorist Group' is still one of my all-time favourites.

  • KS had really bad pressings. Kinda like 4Sight & Skyywalker.
I think S.O.N, Unanimous Decision, Drunken Master, SL Troopers were the sought after ones.
Only a 1/3 of their catalogue was any good though.

  • "Planting Semtex" was a personal favourite of mine on the KS Label, the name of the artist escapes me though, as well the first Dynametrix 12".
Oh gotta claim "Bizzie Rhymin'" by Mc Mello as well...

  • Busta Rhymes immediately comes to mind for me, I'm aware it's more mainstream than the rest of the references, but the fast pace is undeniable...
Busta Rhymes - Gimme Some Mo'

    There's also a Jurassic 5 track that I can't remember the title...

'Movement' by S.L. Troopers is a definite highlight. Whether that's actually on Kold Sweat is another matter though... I think that was on Music Of Life maybe?

    freshco&miz - we don't play

Word. Also, the aforementioned Big Daddy Kane tracks, D.O.C.'s "Lend Me an Ear," Supe & Rud's "Gets No Deeper (Bonus Bassline Mix)," King Sun's fast tracks ("On the Club Tip," "Pure Energy," etc.), Pete & CL "The Creator," X-Clan's "Rhythem of God," Intelligent Hoodlum's "Arrest the President" and on and on and on....

  • J5 track 'Day at the Races' with Kane & Percee P perhaps?

SL Troopers were on both labels.

And Black Radical MK 2 was dope as well.

  • silver bullet were awful
most of what came out on Kold sweat was utterly dire, not all of it though, but drunken master dashy d? that was in demand? that was absolutely irredeemably terrible, an awful awful record. But then again I saw dookie sqwad on a wants list, so obviously the 'britcore' market has deeply suspect taste...

on the subject of fast UK, ahem, britcore, a couple of faves...
D to tha K 'hard but live' is awesome, mr dexter on the mic back in 88 i think, legend has it that it was No-Sleep Nigel's very first hiphop engineering job? (UK - and 'britcore'? - heads know the deal.) 'London/ My town is righteous...'
Dominant Force were severly under-rated i reckon, 'criminals' is an ill record, definitely hot and fast too (amen brother all up in it, 1990 i think), their second one was really dope (on the flex)
Storm 'playing the field', I really need a copy of that, anyone...?
and can't forget Bizzie Rhymin, all time classic, whats the date on that? 88? So good, nice use of humpty dump too

d to tha k was dexter and jimmy(later mc kann on bug, kann and the plastic jam).

another great tune was burial proceedings.great use of love city.

i have a double of movement by sl troopers on music of life if anyone wants to make an offer..also have the promo of the son of noise debut.

any uk heads remember cash crew's "tables have turned"? that song rocked my walkman more than once back in 91....

  • Someone needs to do it. It sounds like there's a whole load of interesting Britcore stuff out there, and someone needs to come through the crap and compile the gems into a neat compilation for the uninitiated.
