I love this album a ridiculous amount
Can anyone recommend any similar stuff (especially w. vocals)?
as in, entire LPs, not just single songs, youtubes etc
Feeling the Lee Morgan late sixties output, Live At The Lighthouse etc

with vocals ? try Andrew Hill's Lift Every Voice
it's a little less straight-aheadish than the Roach album, might even be challenging at times but it's definitely a rewarding listen
what about andy bey's output? I have this impression of it being more like jazz-funk
I want dat raw jazz
if I remember right I think he only released one album, I only listened to it once I think (spotted a sample used by Roc Marciano while doing so for the hip hoppers) but yeah I think it was more soul jazz fusion. I should listen to it again
but he appeared on other artists records namely on this Horace Silver:
originally off of Total Response which is arguably Silver's funkiest album
thanks man!
Great call on that album.
For a vibe similar to Members Don't Git Weary but with vocals, Mike Westbrook's Love Songs is untoppable. Depending on your tastes, Billy Harper's Capra Black or the Mary Lou Williams and Eddie Gale records of that era might hit the spot, too.
yeh, was just thinking of Ghetto Music and Black Rhythm Happening.
