Hi Tom! That Alfonzo version is fire. I get into Manhattan Friday morning. Get ready to kick it.
Thank you Che! I forgot there was a cover of "Low Down" on this album! I just went in the other room here at my place and grabbed the Joe Thomas LP out of a crate! Good lookin' out.
No hay de que, Mr.Chan.

Verse 1:
Em9 A13
Baby's into runnin' 'round, hangin' with the crowd
Em9 A13
Puttin' your business in the street, talkin' out loud
Em9 A13
Sayin' he's bought her this and that and how much you done spent
Em9 A13
I swear she must believe it's all heaven-sent
Em9 A13
Hey boy, you better bring the chick around
Em9 A13
To the sad, sad truth, the dirty lowdown
Em9 A13 Em9 A13
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, I wonder-wonder-wonder-wonder who)
Taught her how to talk like that
Em9 A13 Em9 A13
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, I wonder-wonder-wonder-wonder who)
Gave her that big idea

Verse 2:
Nothin' you can't handle, nothin' you ain't got
Put your money on the table and drive it off the lot
Turn on that old lovelight, turn a maybe to a yes
Same old schoolboy game got you into this mess
Hey son, you better get on back to town
Face the sad old truth, the dirty lowdown
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, I wonder-wonder-wonder-wonder who)
Put those ideas in your head
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, I wonder-wonder-wonder-wonder who)

Verse 3:
You ain't got to be bad, got to be cold
This dog-eat-dog business is surely gettin' old
Got to have a jones for this, jones for that
This runnin' with the joneses, boy, it just ain't where it's at
You gonna come back around
To the sad, sad truth, the dirty lowdown
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, I wonder-wonder-wonder-wonder who)
Got you thinkin' like that
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, I wonder-wonder-wonder-wonder who)

do a cool version.
my question is... what jack ass running the show at the label decided never to put this smash on a 12" ?!?! duh.
There's a live version on that TAKRL boot, but it's nothing special. Plus the audience noise crowds the intro.
The Univesral Something Or Others from right here in Chicago have a fly gospel version, but it's under a different title, a title which escapes me for the moment. (Sorry I'm light on the details; I just ate some coconut-flavored Maria cookies and I'm distracted by the poison-tasting slick at the back of my throat. God, these shits taste like they're laced with Banana Boat and Raid. I'm only gonna eat like one more, and then I'm done-done.)
Anyway, interested parties could also check the instrumental bridge that occurs toward the end of Toto's "Tale Of A Man."
Yezzir. I think it's Jazz Techniques by Lynda Gache (Gash? Really?).
Thank you O! I would love a HK version.
I remember some other DJ playing a MF Doom beat sampling the beginning of the Joe Thomas version and it was dope. Very straight four/four drums fitting into a house set. I can't remember the name. Anybody remembers this?
Is that the one on the Seven Up record?
yes, and it's the shiznit. winnah!
the band called 7-A-Side, produced by the great Noel Quinlan here in Hong Kong.
One of my all time favourite cover version of the song imo.
Not 100% sure where he is now, but I think he resides in the US, I even recall seeing his name turned up as a producer for the Yan Can Cook series.
I thought it was called Disco Gold
