Haha, this is so sad and pathetic but it's the best I got.
See the sheet of blue and white bracelets to the right of Birdman's elbow? That's me working the door! It took some self-control to keep from jumping in and mugging for the camera, but I was not trying to get fired at this point in time.
Oh, I can top the shit out of this one.
Most of you won't know who the guy in the middle is, but that's the hommie Pete Wylie. The guy seated on the left is the singer in some Irish band. The elbow to the right of the frame (rockin' the Sonny Crockett pushed-up sleeves in 1981)? That's me.
Pic was taken backstage at the now closed-for-redevelopment Hammersmith Palais (as in the Clash song) after U2's first big London show upon completing their first big US tour. They hadn't broken through over here yet, but there was a serious buzz about them both here and in the US, and the gig that night was a sell-out. That picture was published in Sounds, a now-defunct UK music weekly, the week after the gig. They also published another pic taken that evening which featured my elbow. Only this one was of Bono, Wylie and Bruce Springsteen, who turned up after his Wembley Arena show the same evening. I've long since lost my copy of the paper, but I've often wondered if the photographer still has a copy of that photo - he asked me to get in the shot, presumably thinking I was in Wylie's band or something, but the picture editor had cropped it for publication. IIRC, Pete Townshend and a couple of dudes from the Psychedelic Furs were there that evening as well.

Especially when you are making the same face as them.
It was like 1:30AM, we were smoking all day and they just got done preforming at an Arista showcase and it was open bar. We were all just tired & smashed by that point.
