Only we Americans would label music not from North America (Canadians seem to be part of America musically) World Music. b,121b,121Since we have people from all over the world here and Americans living abroad or traveling tell me who should I take a listen to out there to expand my musical mind?b,121b,121I have good "Celtic" collection, love Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (R.I.P.), have a smattering from South America, and little things from here and there. I love traditional, but am open to modernized or fused styles.b,121b,121Hit me with your best.

I also will get on the electronica kick every once and a while. I think this has to do with the constant ringing in my ears lately... I think Brian Jones was involved with getting their seminal album released. b,121b,121Hamza el-Din is another name to look into.b,121b,121Persian classical music might be up your alley, based on your NFA Khan namedrop. b,121b,121B-Music has been putting out a lot of good Turkish re-releases lately, but those are generally of the rock/funk influenced variety. Selda Bagcan is a good starting place. b,121b,121You might get a kick out of Central European Brass music, Boban Markovic Orkestar springs to mind. Their live shows are great, but I haven't copped recordings, so tread lightly and try before you buy. b,121b,121The Ethiopiques series on Buda Musique has some very strong points and runs quite deep, Mulatu and Mahmoud Ahmed both have great discs in the series.b,121b,121African music is where it all came from anyway, so do some digging and you'll find something to your tastes - have you checked out Frank's mixes from the archives here, or at his blog voodoofunk? There are a few other blogs out there dedicated to b,121African music forms, though I haven't dug too deep. b,121b,121I've never gotten into the Secret Museum of Mankind series on Yazoo, but you might - a lot of older field recording type stuff from all over the world.b,121b,121Brazilian music is a universe all its own, and you should learn to love it.b,121The loronix blog should have a thing or two for you.

    Theres an Argentinian rock fusion band called "Bersuit Vergabana"....or just Bersuitb,121b,121If you come across any of thier shit grab it...most interesting mix of styles I ever heard... cumbia, murga, salsa,tango,rock,funk,blues,folkore,candombe, rap etc these dudes manage to blend it all into some well structure, engaging, and tightly played songs.... b,121b,121if you speak spanish its even better cus their music has a strong social conscious message and is really directed at the 'pueblo'....but just the music alone if worth it.

    For sure check out whatever Zakir Husain's current band is called. It should be something along the lines of Zakir Husain's incredible rhythm band. My apologies. b,121b,121I want to thank everyone for the recommends, I lost my Turkish folk music when my cassette tape collection went MIA in the 90s.b,121b,121I have heard a slice of Frank's stuff from my brother's collection and its killer. This why I think the internet is going to cause a sea change in American music in the next 10 years. Tons of mad crazy good stuff from all corners of the world floating out there influencing musicians, it will bubble up.b,121b,121Surrealist you rock. Some of your list I have or have listened to and all get high marks from me. Based on that I will definitely run most of your suggestions down. I love Brazilian music but I was broke, broke, broke when I had a yen for it last, time to go hunting again.b,121b,121Thanks again, my music collection has gotten a bit stale and its time to find some new stuff to shake it up.
