    I sit next to a comic book guy at work. He immediately pointed out that something like this should be certified by the CGC (http://www.cgccomics.com/grading/) and the fact that it's not could indicate why the seller didn't get his reserve met. I don't know. Unless it spins at 45rpm, I'm probably not qualified to comment on this thread at all.

    yeah, that's true. grading a comic will always increase it's value, even if it's not that valuable to begin with. it also helps to protect it, which is probably a good idea for a comic that old.

    This is true. By all accounts, It added as much as 50% on the market to my overall take when I sold my father's CGC 5.0 Fantastic Four #1 for him (ended, with shipping, near $4Gs). It's a hassle (involving prayer during the shipping process), but it's well worth it for items that are worth $300+. Even if the return grade is low, it's still an iron-clad guarantee of authenticity. Some collectors would buy the same lesser-valued and CGC'd comic for more money.
