I know this sh*t is ridiculous but my boy (a house DJ) and i refuse to concede so i'm begging record dudes to settle it for us....would you call this song disco or electro/freestyle?Freeez - IOU
Freeez came straight out of the jazz funk scene and I have a great guitar-led live version of this song without the keytar. I guess this is freestyle - not quite electro and definitely not disco. Personally, I'd just call it 80's dance.
I always considered it new-wave/electro-pop, in the same vein as Yaz "Don't Go". As someone else mentioned, Freestyle to me is Latino with female vocals (generally), not males (however femme the vocals are) from the UK.
WOW. i had no idea it was done by whitefolk / brits. was there ever a disco-y version of this, with females on the vocals? maybe it's just me remembering it like that. can anyone up this, please?

No shit. I had to get my girlfriend to come in the room and see the video to show her that as well. We both were fooled.

And the inspiration for D.A.N.C.E. apparently
If I had to choose which way it leaned more, it would probably be Freestyle..
And sometimes YYYYYYY!
Yeah, its not the best but the instro is alright by itself.
boom...
"and sometimes CRYYYY!"
Isn't that the Roland SH-101 with the grip on it? That's a bad ass synth..
To me "Let The Music Play" by Shannon was always Electro, till someone schooled me and told me that this is Freestyle.
So whatever it is, it is no Disco !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is what I would call Disco
Peace

Being that Freeez were from the Uk, I dont think it can be called freestyle, as freestyle was a Latino thing.
This is what we called electro pop or synthie pop (and I'm not ashamed to tell that me and my mates were really into this around 81/82):
