Acid Pro is a complete DAW. Audacity is just a wav editor. I would check out Ableton Live as a Mac Acid Pro replacement.

Big cosign. I've always found Acid to be a bloated, irritating program to work with, but to each his own.

Ableton Live 6 is the SHIT! I'm addicted.
I have Audacity on my Mac but I never use it as a sample editor (maybe I should).

    Ableton Live...

it's funny how no one has yet answered the question at hand.

i believe the correct answer is Garageband. sure, it's a shit program, but that is the mac equivalent to acid pro.

but yes, ableton live is a beast and a half.

    ez.

I'm looking for a program that lets me do multitrack mixes, blends and small chops. Acid Pro was perfect for that when I was still on a PC.

Ableton looks like its just too much for my wishes. How's the learning curve? Also suitable for just layering tracks and doing mixes?

Tried both Audicity and Garageband. No and no.

For multi-track mixing and mastering on Mac, try Peak:

Go with Live and Peak. It's easy learning the basics of Live. Try some of the tutorials at their site to get started.

the question wasn't how good or bad garageband is, but which program is the mac equivalent to acid. and garageband is the mac equivalent.

Garageband = consumer product (as the name implies)

Acid = professional product (even though I still think its a piece of crap, something these two programs have in common)

Live 6 is uber-simple. I mean, I got the hang of it in like a week, so that should tell you something.

The demo version is available on their website. Try it and be content with it.

    dude. what?

are you actually saying that Acid Pro which is sold under a hundred bucks is not a consumer product?

not trying to start nothing, so all due respect, but please pass whatever you're smoking this way. i want some of what you're having.

haha. i don't even know where to begin man. the fact that, 1. your defending Acid pro as a pro piece of gear, or 2. the fact that you're arguing something that never was a question in the first place.

i agreed with you and the consensus in the very beginning that both platforms, acid and garageband are weak compared to ableton live, and yet, you come at me like i'm defending the two.

honestly, i don't know why we're arguing over such a trivial topic. who the fuck cares over the semantics of whats better and what isn't. i've made tracks on all the programs mentioned plus five to ten other recording platforms and honestly, it doesn't matter what you use, but how you use it. so whatever, lets all eat some sammiches and make tracks with fruity loops version 1. lol.

peace to you zen and the rest. i'm done with this topic. tabasko, glad to hear you found the best solution. now get crackin on those beats. ez.

ps. maru, thank you. that was my intention all along. induce seizures for mass collection of raers.
