I should keep my mouth shut, but I can't stay out of this.

    RIP. Another life lost.

    1) She had a personal nurse? The article said she was found by her nurse.

    2) Her bodygaurd gave her CPR? She was found by her personal nurse who did not try to resuscitate so her bodyguard was forced to give her medical aid while the nurse... did what? Hid the pills?

    3) American trash culture is sacred and we are not allowed to criticize?

    4) She was known for soft porn which she turned into a modeling career, which she turned into a movie career, which she used to marry a billionaire (She left with her friends for a vacation in France right after the marriage ceremony leaving the groom behind in Texas). She then turned her legal battle over his will into a reality TV career. I'm not finding a whole lot to respect or defend. Sorry.

    5) This is going to blow my cover as a sensitive, PC, feminist guy... Teemu BEST FIRST POST EVER!

    6) Guzz, I respect that you knew her. She was a human, we know that. But she was also a scandalceleb who was close to 2 controversial deaths. Shes not going to get a lot of Candle In The Wind memorials. I am not convinced that if she had lived her 5 month would have known what it felt like to be raised by her mother.

My apologizes to all I offended.

    D*n,

I find no disrepsect in your post, you posted your thoughts and explained your feelings behind them. What set me off is when people started openly using negativity and eventually disrespect to talk about a dead person. It only got worse when someone evoked the name of another passed on person and planted an (untrue) seed stating I had disrespect for them.

at that point this thread went from having some bad looks to just being ugly.

I'm really not in the mood to continue a pissing match with Tom and I just tried to PM him with some words that may bring us to a peaceful co-existence, but his PM box was full.

delay: if youre willing to listen I still got the PM saved and would love to squash this

dude get off your high horse - as stated 'there are a hell of lot more important and serious things going on this world which would be a better focus for the airtime that is currently being given to her'. I could start to list them but you obviously have a great empathy for each and every of the several billion souls to inhabit this planet and as such are better placed to identify them.

naw dude, but unlike you, I choose to respect the dead unless they deserve otherwise

Awesome - we have Guzzo to be the arbitrator of who deserves respect and who doesn't?

    Are we taking bets??

Guzzo - I'm still waiting for you to answer my questions, surely ignoring them is disrepectful to me and perhaps even others on the board who may be interested in your insightful wisdom about orphans.

No PM's either thanks - just reply on here.

And given your touching compassion for orphans, did you know that there are over 40 million orphans in sub saharan Africa alone? How often does the plight of these people cross your mind? Have you seen any articles about this in the main stream media lately? Can you tell me how many children have been orphaned in Iraq since the American war on terror rolled into that country?

you're being foolish, you don't know what my situation dealing with young kids without a parent is and really though I don't want to get into it. had you decided to play this game any other time in my lif besides now I would've obliged, but seriosuly dude, just know that disrespecting the dead and questioning how I feel about children not having their parents is a really idiotic.

draw your own conclusions if you feel I haven't answered your question

so you don't remember adam disrespecting your boy? but now he's high and mighty?

    dumbfuck, adam didn't disrespect anyone.

    Let's not get carried away.

  • Wow, this thread got ugly fairly fast, didn't it?

No one's death is funny. There tends to be a big of sarcasm in times like this, and anyone who has ever worked in a news department knows how this can be. It's not to mock or make fun, but a lot of times when you're dealing with devastating stories on a regular basis, you have to lighten up the situation, even when you know damn well it's inappropriate. It doesn't make sense, but it's one of many reasons why I'm glad I'm no longer a news producer. I can take that adrenalin rush elsewhere.

Anna Nicole Smith's life did become a mess, and it is unfortunate that it had to be played out in the public, regardless if it was of her own doing or other people. There are a lot of people out of the spotlight whose lives are much worse, those who don't have endorsement deals, cameras following them around 24/7, or lawyers who seem to hang around like a left nut.

    Eh.

I hear you but all the people saying that she doesn't have much to respect and disrespecting her death still sounds a little off to me. You cared enough to post about it, but you care enough not to care???

There are always bigger problems, always bigger issues. Comparing her child to orphans in africa is not a valid comparison imo. Unless you have a stack of cards from your sponsors at the Christian Childrens Fund sitting on your desk I think you need rethink that a little. Its easy to pull that card in almost any debate. Most likely you can always find something that is worse in any situation....that is the beauty of something going wrong in your life....you can always look to people who have it worse to feel better about yourself. But in this case, no one wins.

The way I see it this story, her story, couldn't have been written or imagined or made up by the most talented team of writers. Especially the past 8 months. We will be seeing and hearing about this for years to come. There will be movies, tv shows, legal issues, articles, books etc.. etc.. This is an article that I just read that touches base on a few points mentioned in this thread. Ironically its from a source that helped fuel her fascination in the media, by the media, for the media. It touches base on both sides of the coin a little as to why she was fascinating to people and why people will remain fascinated.

    http://www.accesshollywood.com/news/ah3961.shtml

    from the article;

"She came from humble origins and achieved celebrity and wealth, one way or another," Walter said. "And that is an American story."

For celebrity editor Janice Min of US Weekly, it's the element of perseverance that stands out in Smith's tale, which she sees as "almost this perverse Hollywood Horatio Alger story."

"She fought against so many obstacles -- poverty. Teen pregnancy. A bad home life." And of course, ridicule. "But she persisted, where others would have shrunk away out of humiliation and shame."

It might have made her look pathetic. But it also made it exceedingly hard to look away.

not to be a dick, but...refresh my memory, what did she do?

was she one of those paris hilton types who is famous for being famous, but no one can really remember why?

She's famous for making a very old man very happy. Which is nice. Think of her as a one woman Make-A Wish foundation for needy geriatric billionaires. With tits.

Dude: your argument is fantastically unsuited to this thread.

Seeing as you are so concerned with sub-saharan orphans, i suggest you sell your computer and donate the money to African orphans.

As a bonus we wont have to read your drivel.

Shying away from the topic of disrespect, it's always sad to see anyone screw up their life and those around them but the media comparing Anna Nicole Smith to Marilyn Monroe seems at the least retarded. Jayne Mansfield would probably be a little closer to the mark.

Wow, a new record for the strut. The woman wasn't even dead for 24 hours and some were pretty much calling her a whore. Don't get me wrong. I don't think it's wrong to post pics of her nakid or anything. Thats how she made her living. But you guys are treating someone that was probably taken advantage most of her life and treated like dirt many times over. Just because she used the fact that she was attractive to make a living? Hundreds of millions of dollars were made off her, even before she married the billionaire. Maybe some of you are to young to know what she did for alot of plus size women. For all of the 70's & 80's, alot of bigger women were not given any type of resepct in the industry. Anna Nicole almost changed that single handily. Sure she was messed up in alot of ways. But damn, let her body get cold before ya start saying some of this shit.

I don't really want to be making another kind of moral judgement to go along with some of the others in this thread, but damn, there's some mean-spirited shit been posted on this topic. What happened to "can't knock the hustle"? People need to pick a better target.

Whatever her shortcomings, at least she put in something resembling work to get hers. Comparisons to Paris Hilton - the epitome of a "born-into-money/just-add-water" celebrity, who seems able to get away with the most ignorant, hateful shit imaginable without getting checked, while she laughs in everyone's faces - is truly

    Time out, people.

I think someone already mentioned this, but Ol Dirty Bastard was a walking car crash who OD'd on coke leaving behind who-knows-how-many kids, and Strutters have no problem with him. What is so different between him and Anna Nicole, other than the fact that ODB made some records that we all love?

She was just a person, a little respect for the dead doesn't seem like much to ask.

    Star 80 anyone?

  • so... back on the topic of anna nicole... the new rumor is that the father of her newborn was actually her own son... and that's why she was refusing the paternity tests. don't know how much truth there is in this... but it's the word around hollywood right now and i'm sure we'll all find out this week.

she was good enough to read about, watch on TV and jerk off to, but now that she's dead, people are lining up to spit on her. i guess the high and mighty grew up with a perfect family life, have never been to a strip joint or looked at a skin rag, been drunk/wasted in public, went out with the wrong girl/guy, compromised themselves in order to get ahead or made a bad decision.

hundreds of dark-skinned, poor and anonymous women will die today with absolutely no media coverage, it does make one question the 'importance' of ANS' death. still, in the grand scheme of things, the venom with which people are reacting to her is not warranted, but hardly surprising given the hypocrisy and sexism surrounding sex and celebrity.
