mmm...i like alot of snare sounds but i like ones with a bit of fizz, like you hear on some Ramsey Lewis albums, like the one on love notes - Chili Today, Hot Tamale.But i have to say a Tight ass JBs Snare is a must that gets me everytime.
but i can dig a floppy deep funk snare i love those or those fat chunky played with the sticks the other way round sound, Chic style they're top draw!

Tight sounds better for beats with lots of ghost hits, like the JBs or Dayton Sidewinders.
Loose sounds good if you're just hitting it on the 2 and 4.
One of my favorite snares is on Ultrafunk's "Funky Al" and it's waaay loose.

And so loud it makes you blink every time it hits.
most of all NEVER the pots and pans which so many of these overpriced overhyped funk 45s tend to sound like...imo
